Default will a blank year be considered as a gap ? pleaase urgent

hello everyone,
I have an unusual question, there is a conflict currently in my country between med students and the government about a new law considering us, and it can even reach a blank year, MY question is: if this happened will this year be considered as a gap? knowing that all med students of the country will have this blank year.
Thank you

Yes it will be considered a gap in medical education. There is room to explain it on the ERAS application. If you explain it well and do something in the year off besides just studying (work/volunteer/research/tutor) I don't think it will be a huge deal because it involves the government and is not in your control. Good luck

well, i wqs planning on studying for step 1 during this time, but nothing is official until now, I don't know wether to pay for the STEP 1 or not, do you say that a research or a work will be better than sitting home and preparing for step 1 ? since the former won't be a gap but the latter will.
Thank you

You can study and do something else at the same time. You don't have to work 80+ hours a week, but do something just besides studying because if all you are planning on doing is studying for step 1 for a whole year, you better get a 260
