The MSPE has replaced the Dean's Letter and is very important for you to be considered by programs. You will either need to get in touch with your medical school or lett ECFMG know you need a placeholder document. More info. is available at:
http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/applicants...ents-mspe.html

As far as the ECFMG Certification, it is required by the time you start any residency program. You will have to check for programs when they want the certificate by. Some want it by the time of application, other want it by an interview, etc. The certificate can take an average of 8 weeks to process but it can be more or less time.

Thanks a lot olivia!!
Being an IMG livin in USA, its cumbersome to fetch MSPE from my school so should i request ECFMG? Whichone is better? And does not having ECFMG certificate lessen my chances of getting through?

It may be troublesome, but you will want to at least try to get in touch with your medical school. If you have not heard from them by September 1, then talk to ECFMG.

Not having the certificate will limit the amount of programs you can apply to, but it's not the end of the world.

Default Another Q about MSPE

Last year I attended to apply but decided to only do it for a small amount amount of programs (<10), since I didn't have my ECFMG Certificate ready. No that I have it, I know I can use last year's MSPE but will using it with a "2014" date affect me on my apps? Will programs ask about it or won't care at all?

I'm asking cause the previous dean signed it with some good comments, and right now there's a new one who could sign it but won't add any major thing to it.
