Default I only applied to one program which was my top choice

I think it looks really good for me to get the spot; there are only three residency spots for the spot I want; I've all ready interviewed and it went superb; I also completed an elective with them and it went well; Good luck everyone!

@claireanne
congratulations!
It will be great if you could tell what is expected at an elective from a student?
how do they judge whether a person a good fit in the program?

Default pathology residencies and electives

I think most programs really like to see their future resident in an elective. Some people look good on paper and turn out to be terrible residents. I think these programs look at real interest in pathology and how do you present yourself. They also look at third year clerkship grades and step 1 and step 2 scores. The recommendations from your faculty are also important. Pathology is not an easy specialty and I think a lot of med students are scared to death of pathology.

Default 2016 Pathology Residency Matching Applicants

For what it's worth I got two IVs after pathology two programs Directors directly, so it can't hurt you especially if you keep it brief, reiterate your interest and why you are interested in the program. Most programs have so many deserving applicants each with an impressive grade point average, they need to have something that will help them differentiate students from one another; this is what the personal statement does. With so much emphasis placed on the personal statement, it is important that students have the right type of help with this task.

More information about residency

I have interviewed at all 9 programs in texas in pathology! I've got two favorites because I like the staff and they have dermatopathology fellowships which is the area of pathology that I am interested in. I got good vibes from all 9 programs. We will see how the match ends up!
