Question SOAP and ECFMG Certificate

I shall be appearing for my step2 CK on 14th of February (I have already cleared my Step1 and CS). I expect my result to come on 29th Feb. I have already taken Eras token, but have not yet applied in any residency program. I want to apply in SOAP this year. My questions are
1. How long it takes for ecfmg certificate to come?
2. In case if I dont get ECFMG certification before 12th March, can I still participate in SOAP?

I agree SOAP

I have not applied to any residency program yet, does that make a difference, because someone told me that you need to apply to at least one residency program. I am not sure how many programs are still open for applying.

Please guide.

Yes, that's true.
You need to have applied to at least one program, otherwise you are not eligible for SOAP.

Star SOAP

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the post. I would like to ask whether any programs are open yet?
Can I apply in programs that have their deadlines past now? (just to show ECFMG that I have applied to one program before SOAP)

yes you can apply to any program in ERAS. Make sure you use all your LORs so that they will be saved in ERAS for the next match.

Yes they can be used if the LOR writer didn't recommend you to that specific specialty only but rather recommended you to residency in general.

Thank You applicant guide ... I have 2 general Lor and 1 IM lor in my ERAS .... In case i don match if i want to apply for FM or peds or psych in SOAP .... I would be able to use only 2 lor for FM or peds or phych .... Is it correct ... Would it affect my application .....

Thank You

Step 3 doesn't help you much but if you got low score it can ruin your application. Try to do observership if you haven't yet. To apply tostep 3 go to the fsmb website and follow the instructions.

I have heard that IMG's in need of visa do need Step3.Even if the program has not mentioned it as a criteria(most if not all programs).I have collected this info from various sources.By this I mean that most program prefer IMG's with step 3.Having said that this may not be true for IMG's residing in US or those that do not require visa.
