Default Well...

I have the same question here. My friend told me that having a master degree looks good in your application, and is even better if you have a paper publication. That it can give you a sort of an advantage over a lot of people. Although, some other people say that it has no use... so... I do not know what to think. This is my situation: A master degree, a paper already published and an other paper that is coming out this year (I wish I will get it published)... for the rest, I do not know

Any insight here??

Default research

Thanx for the reply, even i heard the same story, publication in an valued international journal counts, they dont mind indian journal publications but the fact is something is better than nothing comparing to people without any publication.

Again clinical experience abroad helps in matching residency.

You're right in that there are mixed reviews regarding research experience and that a publication is still better than none. I have read U.S. residency matching books and according to these books, although research/publication can be a plus in an application, it's not necessarily a top criteria. Program directors still prioritize visa, usmle scores, and U.S. clinical experience of IMGs.

But if I were to have a publication to beef up my application, that would still make me happy. Although, of course, if I'm going to choose between working on a research or a clinical experience after finishing the steps, I'd go for US clinical experience.
