Default What are my chances of matching

Hi, I'm a us IMG and I graduated last may from a college in India. Right now I have my step 1 score 243 and step 2cs pass. Both are first attempt. I have 1 rads and 2 medicine and one letter from physiology but all are from my med school professors in India. I will have my Ck score by November end since I plan to take it by November 1-5th. Then I'm planning to start an observer ship to try to get a us letter. I plan to apply to radiology and internal medicine. But my heart is mostly set on rads. Pls advise me or help me with any contacts. I live in south Florida. Thanks. Awaiting your feedback

Radiology is not as competitive as it used to be but make sure to apply to all programs if you can afford it (community and university affiliated if money is tight). Visa issue is always a concern. Also, get rid of the physiology letter of rec, it's completely worthless. Score well on CK and you got a shot. Also try to get involved with research, radiology puts more emphasis on it than others (if you can't, it might not matter for some programs)

Also, what letters should I use for transitional programs?

Being a US citizen, having recently graduated and a high Step 1 score will help you immensely. If you can secure a specialty specific LoR or two from your observership, that will help a lot.

About the lack of CK score, I suggest you first call some sample programs and see what they have to say about applicants without CK score. Then, make a list of the more lenient programs (do not require ECFMG Certification) or programs you have history with you to apply to in September. You can apply to the less competitive programs later but you might as well apply to programs you would miss out anyways,

Just make sure you have the rest of your application ready to go before applying to any programs. Get your specialty specific Personal Statements done (one for Rads, one for IM), upload the LoRs you have and get the other components together such as the MSPE and MyERAS Application.

At match a resident, what do you mean when you said apply to programs you might miss anyways? I am searching for less competitive programs. I was also thinking if I can get into a transitional program then I can apply again next year to rads with lor from my transitional program or others which I would get before next September. But I want to get into something at least a transitional in this match. Do you think I'd have better chance with transitional year or prelim medicine.
