Question Research with no patient contact

hi forum,

one of the doctors has agreed to take me for research, but he said that it has got very little patient contact, basically in cardiac imaging studies.

will such a research work benefit me for residency of my choice?

Yes. It will definitely help.

Not all research involves patient contact. Bench research is the most common style and still residency program directors love it.

Yes, any research in the medical field will boost your application but it will never substitute the need for US LORS from observerships.

what about if the research position was for 2 years with no patient contact, would that be considered a "gap" in clinical work because I heard of programs saying that to applicants, or would it be even better?
I'm confused because I have another option to work for one year only (but it's without pay) in another position and I'm trying to decide.
BTW, by "bench" do you mean like basic science research or what?
Thanks.

@ma3n-87 As you said, some PDs are cosidering it a gap especially the community programs who have less interest in research and more interest in applicants who can finish scut work in short period of time.

My advice to you take that job but mean time arrange doing at least 2 observerships in the middle.

yeah that's what I was considering, I'm not sure if observerships can be done with time allowing that, that's why I'm considering volunteering for a shorter time and starting residency a year earlier. thanks for the advice
