University of Kansas-Wichita. "We have reviewed your application. We will send you an email next week regarding your final status"

I'm assuming it's a pre rejection. Anyone else have better luck?

Depends on which prelim. Medicine prelims are harder than surgery

Quiet monday so far.. Looking for 1-2 more interviews and I'll be content. Let's hope those cancellations start coming in

Default ECFMG data analysis

Sending an update. I got six anesthesiology ivs so far and one prelim IM. The last iv was received on 11/3, almost ten days ago. I am still hoping for more but I am not counting on it.
It looks like a lot of us got at least a few interviews. According to this ECFMG data analysis, we are more likely to get a match than not to get a match if we have 3-4 contiguous ranks. It is RANKS not interviewed programs! It is promising

Sure. The upper panel is for U.S. IMG and the lower panel is for non-U.S. IMG. For example, in non-U.S. IMGs, there are 20+47=67 applicants who only had one rank on their Rank Order List (ROL), 20 of them matched and 47 did not match. There are 10+18=28 applicants who had two ranks on their ROL, 10 of them matched and 18 did not match. For those who had three ranks on ROL, 13 out of 16 matched, and 3 out of 16 did not match. That is why I said if we have 3 contiguous ranks or more, we are more likely to match than not to match.
For the U.S. IMG: In those who have 1-2 ranks, there are more unmatched than matched. There are 20 applicant who had 3 ranks, 10 matched, 10 unmatched, so half half. For those who had 4 ranks, more matched than unmatched.
Hope it helps.

Advocate Illinois Masonic vs. Temple for my top 2. I liked temple minus the whole probation thing, bUT i have been reassured that all violations were addressed. The residents seemed nice and PD seemed nice. Cases are crazy and prep you for the world outside residency. The chairman kind of rubbed me the wrong way, he is stuck in a business way of thinking. Board pass rates weren't amazing. Limited study time.

I did my away rotation with downstate and affiliates. Wasn't a fan. Brooklyn expensive. Moved around to different hospitals. Good training and job prospects for new york area.

Didn't get a chance to interview at advocate but I liked temple's facilities and it seems like they've changed things for the better.. but the way things appear on IV day may not always translate to reality. Do not like the surrounding area one bit lool

Hahaha. You have to be careful in that area. Residents have been mugged in the past. It would be a good idea to get a conceal and carry permit.

I did not get the chance to interview at Temple, but I interviewed at the other two programs. Personally, I think these are all decent programs where one can get solid training. It is a matter of where you fit in better and where you want to live. As to where you fit in better, it is more or less a guessing game based on the feeling you gathered in a few hours. I didn't have any unpleasant experience at any of my interviews, and I am pretty sure I will get along just fine with wherever I match. So my No.1 consideration is where I want to live when the programs themselves are hard to rank. As I prefer smaller cities, none of the two programs are my top choices, and I would definitely avoid living in a place where I am afraid of being robbed or feel unsafe. It causes extra stress that I don't need for the already stressful residency. The cost of living is another big consideration. Even though SUNY's salary is higher than the others, but the cost of living in NY is higher than the salary can compensate, in my opinion. Another thing I consider is the local traffic and how difficult it is to travel to all the major rotation sites. At the end, different people have different preference and evaluate things differently, so it really comes down to what matters to you and what you think is the best option for yourself. Good luck!

Search Loy

I'm a CA-3 about ready to graduate from Loyola's Anesthesiology program. Just thought I should share my experience and let others form their own opinions. We recently had a meeting with the ACGME committee due to violations in our duty hours, lack of educational time, and dangers to patient safety. Its likely the Loyola Anesthesiology program will be shut down or at least put on Probation.

I've had decent training over these last few years but essentially we are treated like CRNA's. The program directors Dr. Murray and Wiisanen even require us to do all the preop work for the CRNA's cases daily so they can go home early. Additionally we relieve the CRNA's from their cases in the early afternoon while we stay until 7-8 o'clock at night almost everyday. The worst part in my experience is that the duty hours are so intense they allow for almost zero educational time. Technically we do have lectures but they are not really protected forcing us to wake up early or sacrifice our free time in order to attend. That being said, the grueling hours leaves very little time to study for boards, resulting in marginal in-training exam scores and poor matching for fellowship.

Lastly Loyola was recently bought by Trinity Heath. The new owners are pushing for more surgical volume, stretching our staff very thin. Many residents have had to work >100 hours a week in order to keep up. It has gotten so bad that the patients have been put at risk due to resident fatigue and lack of appropriate staffing. There have been several instances where there was not a resident available to respond to a code in a timely manner because the on call had to staff an extra case in the OR.

Please consider your options and do your research when choosing a residency program.

So now that ROL are certified, what did you guys rank first. I only ended up with 4 interviews, scared shitless right now about the match. Would be cool to see what ppl ranked.

1. Suny downstate, 2. NS-LIJ, 3. Kendal Regional 4. Wayne state

Default Actual CA-3 at Loyola

This post is in response to Loyola Senior that posted earlier. I am currently one of the chiefs at Loyola and we recently had a meeting in which all 12 CA-3's were present. We were all in agreement that the statements in the post were inaccurate and misrepresented the overall opinion of the current CA-3's. We can only speculate on the intentions and the identity of the poster, but we can state, with certainty, that no one from the Loyola CA-3 class made the above post. As many of the applicants that interviewed at Loyola can testify, we have been very open with our issues and ways we are attempting to improve upon them. If any members on this forum would like to get into contact with an actual Loyola CA-3 resident and have issues clarified, please call our department office at (708) 216-6462. The secretary will be more than happy to get you into contact with myself or the other chief.

Good luck to everyone in the match this year.

As a fellow applicant I felt your anxiety during this waiting period, not only if I will match but also where I will match. If you are mainly worried about if you will get a match, I think your chances of getting a match is promising based on the statistics. I don't know if you see my posts earlier (#127, 128 and 130) where I posted the statistic data from ECFMG. Your four interviews will give you at least five continuous ranking of anesthesiology on you ROL (SUNY Downstate has both Categorial and Advanced programs, but I am not sure about others), so the odds are in your favor as long as you did well on your interviews.
One week to the match week! Good luck to everyone and may each of us get a good match!

Definitely mainly worried if I will match. so much anxiety. I did see your earlier posts and that has helped a little, but still my biggest fear is matching into an advanced and not getting a prelim. I only had 2 prelim interviews . One of them is a place that i liked and has at least 12 prelim spots and half of those guys in the last years match just had prelim IM and nothing else and converted to categorical IM. So I don't believe its a competitive place at all. Also most of them were IMGs. Worse part is, looking at the stats for SOAP is really bad at my school. Only 127 spots were dished out to US-IMGs and only 5 people from my school were able to SOAP. Scary ****. Thanks for your vote of confidence though, much appreciated. Also if you don't mind, what were your top 3 - 4 ranks? If you don't wish to show its all good. Good luck!

I think it is common that most of us did not get many prelim interviews, I heard my fellow applicant saying so all the time during my interviews. I only had one Prelim IM through ERAS application and I applied for 100+. Two of my advanced programs said that their surgery department will coordinate with the anesthesiology department, so they can maximize the chances of anesthesiology residents get a prelim surgery in the same hospital. As what I see from the match data, there are a plenty of unfilled prelim surgery positions last year. I bet even if you only matched an advanced position, your chances of getting a prelim surgery is good, either through SOAP or after the SOAP. Personally, I think there are still plenty of opportunities after the SOAP, and your program director would want to help you too.
My top four programs do not overlap with yours at all

Matched, but I applied to a back up specialty. So still scared to find out what field I'll actually be in on Friday. Had 4 contiguous ranks for anesthesia. Hoping it works out. Congrats to everyone though!

Thanks. I am also a little anxious about Friday. I ranked all the programs because I don't think I can afford to be choosy. However, there are places I really do not like.

It seems every year it is something different. USIMG were very successful in radiology in 2015.
