Angry Pathetic to apply to multiple specialties

hey guys
I just wanted to say that I think its not cool that IMGs apply to multiple specialties just for the sake of getting into 'a US residency'. I mean come on, is it just the money u guys are all after or what exactly. Whatever happened to doing what u truly like....seriously it is pathetic and unfair to other IMGs who are dedicated to a certain specialty
and thanks

Hmm understandable , but everyone likes to keep a back up .... you may be having great scores , research , USCE but those who lack some where or have a few negative points in CV might do it , and its acceptable to look on your options beyond what you like and what you can get ..... not everyone is good at getting what they want .... life's full of compromises ......

but even if they have applied to many fields , you will still beat them becoz you appear dedicated to your feild and your CV will speak for it and PDs will notice these differences ..... Goodluck ...... nothing is fully right and wrong in this world .......

how do you all apply for multiple specialities? Do you have that many lor from different speciality?
wont the program directors get to know from the common application form itself that the candidates are applying for back up?.

For example if a person has 2 us lor from pediatrics and 1 from FM and research work in pediatrics, wont it be obvious that they are applying to FM as a back up and i guess chances of getting and interview also go down.?
just a thought..

@ add1, people coming to the US don't care much about what specialty because if they care then they will do it back home where it is easily available. People here just care to get any board and sette down and find a good future.

@ winner21, PDs can't find out what you are applying to because your LORs will not be recommending you to a specific specialty even if they are from a pediatrician or gynecologist, unless you made that mistake and got them recommend you to a spcific specialty. However, most IMGs get LORs from different specialties as you can upload to ERAS as many as you want (but you can only assign 4 LORs for each program). Also you will be able to assign each program a different personal statement.

Some of my friends (AMGs) applied to more than 1 specialties, because they werent sure, and could see themselves doing either one. I'll be applying to more than 1 because I am still very undecided. Calm down, some of us can say "I dont think it is right for people to come into the US and practice medicine!" Note the sarcasm. Its really not that serious. Worry about what you are doing, your destiny is yours, and you shouldnt be concerned about someone else's choices affecting yours.

This is a big assumption. Who are you to say that a student who applies to more than one specialty is not dedicated? I can argue that students who are interested in more than one specialty actually like medicine even more because they like multiple aspects of medicine. If someone wishes to apply to more than one specialty, why is that a problem for you?

If you have been dedicated to one specialty throughout medical school and even before, kudos to you. However, many of us do not know what we truly like until we do rotations in 3rd to 4th year because we don't have one-track minds. If you have been truly dedicated to one specialty, surely your application must be stronger and your credentials will speak for themselves. What is there to worry about?

I'm an IMG and I'm applying to 5 different specialties. Yes, you heard me right. You mad bro?
