Default Do not rush, do not panic

This is my second time to join the match. Obviously, I didnt match last year. One thing that I learned from my experience is that submitting a complete application a few days/weeks late is better than an incomplete application that is submitted early.

Do not rush just because you have read in forums that everyone have submitted their applications already. Do not panic if someone will post that he/ she received an interview today. Be smart. Be calm. Be positive.

Sorry to hear about your unsuccessful attempt in 2 CS. My personal advise would be to wait for the result. But thats just me..

If all that's "incomplete" is your LORs, then it is better to submit early and just assign the documents as they're uploaded. Many programs still send out invites to applicants with incomplete applications

@BOATOX thanks but how can we be sure they will see the update? esp since that LOR is a imp one?

Will applying say by 24th or so be too late?? When shld i press the button even if the lor doesnt come through?

I'm in the same boat. But I applied to programs not specifically requiring 3 LoRs. e.g. Emory requires 2. So I'm waiting for last LoR to send out fully.

Last year, I called a busy program in New Jersey about incomplete application. The program coordinator said that we can send the LoRs later, and that we can send our application even with just USMLE step 1 score, and submit ECFMG cert in Feb. They will put your application in a folder and mark it as incomplete-ECFMG or Incomplete-MSPE etc. so that they can go back to it later. (She even said they will put it in a basket LOL) But when they start receiving thousands of applications they will not have time to go back.

Some programs dont wait for mspe or LoRs before they send interview invitations. But some programs will require you to have those. If you are SO LUCKY to have applied to programs that will not require those then its good. Otherwise......

With the new ERAS system, they don't need to re-download your application. It will refresh automatically and will become available under the list.

Ex. Program has filter set for USMLE 1,2 + >2LORS uploaded. You submit your app with only 1LOR. Program sees you as incomplete. You assign it a few days later and you now pop up on the list for review

Is there any benefit to emailing the program administrators when your scores pop up?

I'm doing this whole process in the middle of 3rd and 4th year as to not waste a year and go straight into residency. I just took my CK last week because that was the formal end of my 3rd year and took CS last month. Both of which are pending but seeing as I'm graduating in 2016, I will be marked as incomplete until those scores come.

Yes, email them when you have received your scores. But first call NBME and ask if your scores are included in your transcript then retransmit your scores to them thru ERAS.

Honestly i think you should start applying. I applied with 2 LORs and havent received any rejection yet. I have infact recieved 2 emails of interest which probably means they are at least considering my application.

I am unfortunately having the same issue, its been 13 days now since my first upload, and the last one was uploaded yesterday, so I'm wondering how much more time they are going to take to process.
Since I'm applying to two specialities, I think I'm at a major risk. For Neurology, NONE of my LORs have been processed yet, and for IM, only 2 LORs.
I have however applied to just ONE program so far, because of a contact there, and the program coordinator said "We know that the system is really slow, so it's okay you can apply with 2 LORs". But then again, I knew people over there, which is why I think it worked, I don't think the other programs would be this generous, and with 0 letters for Neurology, its heartbreaking...

Here's a weird question but it involves panicking; I have a really good LOR that I want the author to upload but I've been trying to contact him since the beginning of September and he seems to be unavailable. Even if I upload it unwaived, there's another problem; no handwritten signature, just an email signature & his university hospital logo. Does this make it unusable? Because Id' really hate not being able to use it.

Having 2 LoRs is ok. Not good, but its better than 1 or none. Call ERAS and tell them to upload ur letter.

I would wait until I am able to contact the author. Its not unusable. But Unwaived + no signature= not reliable. Unwaived with signature maybe better. Waived with signature is best.

Cuba PS for categorical

I have a question: can I assign my PS for advanced anesthesia to a preliminary IM? Or I have to create a PS just for the categorical?
Also is better to write what advanced specialty are you interested in, when you select a preliminary track on ERAS application?

thanks

Make a specific personal statement for every specialty that u apply to.

So, if I am applying to a prelim IM, no categorical, because I am also applying to advance programs should I write about my passion for IM when I am only seeking the one year required for my advanced, the one I really like?
Also programs ask about what advanced program are you applying to, they know about your interest in another specialty
Thanks in advance

Another question regarding LOR; would it be too forward/pushy of me to call the author if he hasn't responded to my email? Has anyone ever had to do that? I keep worrying that my email was missed/ended up in spam.

Just remind the LoR author nicely. He knows that it is important. Call him.

Make an IM specific PS if you want to apply to IM prelim. You can specify the advanced program that you want to pursue in ERAS. When you check the prelim box, it will automatically give you an option to write it there. My personal advise is to not put anesthesia there. If you want Neurology then thats fine bec it is related to IM.

I want to apply in Neurology, I have 3 LORs uploaded, but the 4th LOR is an important one, because it is from my Departmental Chair, and that too a stellar one. What would you guys have done in this situation? It was uploaded on the 23rd, and I'm waiting for it to be processed...
