Default Help .. IMG aiming for general surgery

Your input can determine lots of factors and plans ..
I have graduated in January 2012 .. and i am an IMG
now i am in a psychiatric medical officer in my country, and probably the next year too..
Due to financial and family issues i can't apply for 2016 match ,, but 2017 ..
by that time i will be over the 5 years duration since graduation ..
Will this really affect my chances badly ??
Is there a way to have a year of a hand on experience in US for a graduate before the match ?
The scores in STEP 1 and 2 are solid ,, above 250 .. CS first attempt ,, but no surgical experience plus a fail in a subject during my college years ..
please compare my chances in 2017 for a preliminary vs categorical ..
I would love if we can skype,
I am really interested in pediatric surgery and your input is vital ..

With no US surgical experience your chances are poor. Your scores may get you a prelim interview at best but your lack of surgical letters and experience is going to hurt you. Pediatric surgery requires a phd at minimum and is extremely competitive once you finish a general surgery residency (if you got there)
