Listening What to do to increase my chances?

my scores are 224(step1)/209(CK) and i am scheduled to give CS in May2012. i am looking forward for IM/paeds. Guys what should i do to increase my chances? should i apply for 2013 match after passing CS and doing 3 months of observerships ( so that i can have USCE) and then after applying to 150+ IM/paeds programs in september, give my step3 by october this year OR should i do research+observerships+step3 by 2013 and apply for 2014 match.i want to apply once for match when i think i have the maximum chances. i dont wanna apply again and again. your thoughts highly welcomed....please guide me!

i dont know but personally research counts only when you get published it in first hand author in recognized international journal which is not that simple. secondly research counts more in getting academic programs...it do add weight to your cv though but may not probably change the number of interviews you get.
these are my thoughts...best of luck.

research will not benifit you much especially that you will not be matching in the high-tier university programs where they care for research as your scores will only help you in the community programs mainly. My advice is do your observerships and get US LORs and apply 2013. Don't rush your step 3 but do it when you are fully prepared because also it doesn't have much impact on your match outcome.
