Question Change residency in the next year

I have an idea, please guide if its practically possible. I will take which ever residency I get then reapply the next year. if i get a better residency next year, I will change my residency next year. Is it possible?

the reason i will do this, i want a very good residency at the best institute possible, even if i have to waste one whole year

thanks a lot

Yes. You can do that.

Is it always possible? Answer is NO.

Some residency programs won't release you no matter what you do. Some residency programs even put it you in a national black list if you insist on leaving them which would effectively block your efforts at getting any other residency.

So it's a good idea but it does not always work, there's a big risk (I'd say 50%) that you can't change residency in PGY2.
