Default Expectation level as a new intern?

Do we have to know SOAP notes, charting, etc starting residency? At my medical school we don't really learn these things... if you can take a history and do examination and pass your Steps with good scores would that be okay? I am worried because I hear people get terminated from program because they are not competitive...any idea? Thanks.

Hi, this is the importance of doing observerships.
Anyway, you will learn most of the stuff in the pre-residency orientation. Many other things you will learn during you first few days of floor rotation especially the SOAP notes and how to enter orders. You should be bright enough to catch the things soon to be on the positive side of the peer to peer progression. Am working on my website section "how to survive residency" for interns and residents which might be of help to you.
