Default ECFMG certificate is NOT needed for residency application

I just got my ECFMG certificate yesterday, so now I'm here sharing my experience, hope this will help those freaked out by mixed information.

So the story is my school messed up my medical educational credential. Even though I have step 1, ck, cs scores in late July 2015, ECFMG couldn't issue me an ECFMG certificate.
I was in deep desperation when they informed me in late August that the school forgot to stamp the official seal on the form, again.

However, the ECFMG representative told me ECFMG is not required for residency application. I was totally confused. Luckily I was doing observership, so I immediately ran to the program coordinator's office, and asked her the same question. Surprisingly she told me in 100% confident words "Ask an IMG you need step 1, ck, cs score to be qualified for application. However, you don't need ECFMG certificate during residency application, nor can we look that up on your ERAS application. But you do need to hand it to the program before your training started. "
To back her words up, she pulled out an FMG's file (every resident has their own file), and showed me her ECFMG certificate. Printed on her certificate was her med school graduation date (in May 2015) and her ECFMG certificate issued date (in June 2015). She started residency training in July 2015.

I was in total relieve after the conversation, yet my friends (matched or matching) couldn't believe this information, nor was I so sure after seeing MatchAResident's IMG friendly list marked ECFMG certificate needed for every program.

Luckily, this rumor was busted. I start receiving interviews one week after Sep 15, and a couple were from programs that I have no connection, so I'm pretty sure this is a general rule for all programs.

In short hand, just in case you are impatient and skip to the last sentence (like we all are when doing UW), you do need step 1, ck, cs score to be qualified for residency application. However you don't need ECFMG certificate for residency application, but you do need to hand it to your matched program before starting residency.
So if you haven't receive your ECFMG certificate on Sep 15, submit your application anyway.

Last but not least, all the best for everyone attending the 2016 Match!!!!
