Default Opposed vs Unopposed Programs

What do you guys think are the pros of going into an opposed residency program?

Unopposed - where there are multiple residency programs at the hospital (not just the specialty you applied for)

I dont think it would effect much, coz based on my experience in US university, once we join a particular speciality, we are restricted to it and we have no idea as to what is going on in other departments.

However, if we have an opportunity it would be better to join a program which has sub-speciality training opportunity.

Actually it is the opposite. An unopposed program is the only residency at that hospital.
