Mail LoR by email!

Heyz all....I am an international medical student currently doing my clinical electives in USA. I asked my attending for a LOR and he said he will send it to me by e-mail.:

1- Will this be considered an official LOR?

1- Should I also tell him to send one to ERAS when I apply for the match (PS:i will apply for match 2014).

2- Should I tell him to address "dear program director".

please any extra advice u find useful.....

If he sends it to you by email then he has to make sure that he scan it, because the LoR needs an actual signature and that cannot be done electronically.

You may ask him to post mail it to you better, this way you'll get the original paper.

PS: I noticed that some attendings say that to escape the issue. In other words, he might be not willing to write an LoR for you and he just doesn't want to say that to you!

If he sends you the LoR and you read it. Then in that case you are not waiving your rights to see the LoR and in that case "officially" he should not upload it to ERAS, you have to upload it. The exception to that, if you have really good relation with him, then you can tell him to upload to ERAS as if you have waived the rights even though in reality you have actually seen the LoR.

As for the Dear Program Director please read here

Post mail it means use regular postal mail not email.

To know whether waiving your rights is better read here
