Default Please Help !!

Hi
I am an IMG with 240s in both steps and CS passed first attempt.
I have 4 IVs now.2 ivs are from community hospital in NYC.
I am extremely interested in cardiology fellowship after IM residency. Is it possible to do cardiology fellowship after community hospital residency or is it impossible? I am ready to spend 1 yr following IM residency for research in cardiology. Is is better to apply next year with improved cv and get match at some good program with good opportunity for cardiology fellowship or get match this year in to community hospital and spend one more year after that for fellowship?
The programs i already interviewed are small community hospital and i don't know about elective rotation. They don't have even Cath-Labs.

Please give your honest opinions.

Very possible. One of the places I rotated through is a small community program that recently has matched 2 residents to cardiology. inquire about doing away rotations at these programs... most places I've interviewed at will allow up to 2 away rotations at other programs. You must select these programs wisely, and work with faculty in cardiology who will help you get to where you want.

Yes, people have matched into Cardio after doing residency in community programs. It depends on the nature of the program. Do they have any affiliation with bigger programs? You should also ask your interviewers where past graduates have matched into fellowships.

Hi,
i'm gonna give you my honest answer, first before worrying about cardiology fellowship i think you should worry about getting into medicine, without internal medicine you will never make it to cardiology, then after getting into medicine, it is possible to get into cardiology even from a community hospital, not the one with no cath lab but other community hospital that's possible.
also, during residency it all about working hard and be focused on doing some cardiology related publications even if you dont have a formal research department.
after residency, you have to spend about two years doing research fellowship or non-accredited fellowships to show commitment to the field.

I'm saying all this because i have enough experience regarding this issue and have good relationships with cardiologists who advised me to do so.

so focus on getting to medicine first.
Happy holidays
