Here goes, how would you rank them? The list below is in no particular order and I'm new to the process so not sure which ones of the programs should be at top and which ones should go to the bottom. Except Meharry Medical College all are in IM..Meharry is in Family Medicine.

1. Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, MA
2. Richmond University Medical Center, State Island, NY
3. Mather Hospital, Port Jefferson, NY
4. Maimonides, Brooklyn, NY
5. Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, NJ
6. St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, MO
7. Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN

I feel no one can tell you how to rank a particular program tbh because they did not interview with you and do not know what you are looking for in a program. The general wisdom is to rank programs based on the places you like best at the top and those you liked less at the bottom. If there is a place or program you are 100% sure you would absolutely hate ending up at then don't rank it at all. And one last thing there really isn't much of a difference between the community hospitals on the lists above in terms of the quality of training you will receive, so no point losing sleepless nights obsessing about how to rank them. Where you end will not make a huge difference

where you end up will make a world of a difference when it comes time apply for fellowship

I don't know about a world of difference if your options are a long list of community programs. They are not that different. Find one that suits your needs best a nd rank it higher or highest on the list.

Thank you for your replies! Yes I know they are all community programs and I'm excited to have those interviews. I guess the main thing is the fellowships which as I understand is kind of another match down the road and where one does residency somehow matters. I don't know about how the fellowships match works.

Some of the programs have in-house fellowship like Maimonides so I would assume that program will have a leg up on say some other program that doesn't.

The common wisdom seems to be that rank the program in the order of preference for the applicant and match algorithm will take care of the rest.

Having said that, there must be some way or saying program x is better than program y, hence I'm asking the folks here to chime in with their ratings/rankings for these programs. Say if location was not a preference, the only other factor would be how will the residency at a particular program will play out in the fellowship phase.

I don't think a single interview day is enough for you to tell if a program is a good fit. Other's experience and opinions can only help you make a more informed decision.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I wanted to separate the heart-based ("got a great vibe") and facts based decisions. Here's whatI'm leaning towards based on my thinking so far:

First programs that offer in-house fellowships
Second programs that have potential of looking good on the resume down the road but have no in-house fellowships
Third programs that are small community programs and are decent

  1. Maimonides, Brooklyn, NY
  2. Richmond University Medical Center, State Island, NY
  3. Mather Hospital, Port Jefferson, NY
  4. St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, MO - Haven't had interview yet
  5. Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, MA
  6. Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, NJ
  7. Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN - Family Medicine - Haven't had interview yet

Wish you luck this match season. I have got friends from Pakistan who are going through the process this year. Your scores are great!

Thank you for your reply. I understand that doing residency at a strong program will increase the chances of getting fellowship.

I don't know a whole lot about the fellowship at this point. If I get accepted at a residency at say plain vanilla community programs does that mean I got no chance of getting accepted at a better place later for fellowship?

Hey! I posted on a separate thread, don't know if I should have posted here instead...

Anyway, anyone have input on these:

1-4: Baystate/Tufts (Springfield, MA) = Allegheny Gen Hosp (Pittsburgh, PA) = Atlantic Health - Morristown (NJ) = St Elizabeth's - Steward (Boston, MA)
CAN'T DECIDE

Next tier (I think)

Staten Island University Hospital (NY)
Advocate Christ UIC (Chicago, IL)
Roger Williams Medical Center (Providence, RI)
Lincoln Medical Center (NY)
Queens Hosp Center (NY)
Richmond Univ Medical Center (NY)
Englewood Hospital (NJ)

Appreciate anyyy input, good luck to all!

Note: interested in fellowship (definitely not GI and probably not cards but unsure what exactly) and no geographic preference.

Hi everyone. Does anyone have experience interviewing at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Roosevelt?

They looked very similar on interview day. So any thoughts would be appreciated!

He/she has to be a pretty amazing IMG cause I know for a fact that it's nearly impossible for IMGs to get into UCSD.
