Warning! 2012 Match: Unmatched IMG Applicants Thread

Five days ago the NRMP Match Results for 2012 was released. Congratulations to all those who made it. But, we also know that there are thousands of applicants who did not make it this year.

This thread is for those unmatched applicants. See the 2010 unmatched applicants thread. We didn't have 2011 version.

Post your experience here; what were your USMLE scores, year of graduation, specialties applied for, number of programs applied for, did USCE or not, your visa status, how many interviews you got, and any other relevant information.

This should help all of us understand the parameters that inflicted a match failure.

So let's get started

The main reason was (CS second attempt) they really hate this.

They says when residency start in july and after few months some doctors dont like the residency either the place or the speciality so they drop out

So if any one unmatched was in us and knew the someone drop can he go to that hospital to fill the spot and they will accept him without reentering the match

Is it really like this or not

Default Matching

What all unmatched IMGs must also do is cultivate contacts, friendships and connections within the hospitals you apply...it's not all about scores. I have friends with Step scores as low as 77 for Step 1 and low 80's for Step 2 CK and failed CS first attempt that matched of course in the pre-match. but it's about who you know also....two other friends with average scores got a residency because their older brother is a Dr at that same hospital. It's not always fair game.

I find it hard to believe that a 2nd attempt at CS is worse than a 2nd attempt at Step 1 or CK.

It's not fair because nothing about this exam is fair. I took the exam last month and I don't feel that it represents medical practice.

I just hope I passed but made too many mistakes to even be sure of that- most of which I can't even remember- but just know they were plenty...Or maybe it seems that way?

IDK. All I know is that I know how to communicate and I know how to smile and that my clinical knowledge is also going to be tested on other test like CK and step 1.

People get really nervous with this test...just how the SP (grader) looks at you, is much more intimidating than how a patient will ever look at you.

I'm very scared. Help me God....:sorry:

Sorry to hear about that. I think the problem was that your CK result came in late. Otherwise, your credentials are exceptional.

Good luck on next match.

sorry to hear abt that.but if ur CK results are out in late oct it means it will be early december by the time u are ECFGM certified.it would have been too late.and by the time ur step 3 results have come the majority if the interview season would have been over..
good luck next time.but other than that ur scores are very good.u should def match this time

I know usually they don't advise you to get experience outside the US. My personal experience did not show that this is accurate. I had above the average scores in step 1 and CK, CS second attempt, only one month of observership during the match season (I brought the LOR to the ivs). But what I really think helped is that I was already a second year resident in my country in the same specialty I am applying to. I matched from 3 ivs, did not have any connection. Oh, and I also needed visa.

Step 1 233/99
Step 2 235/99
Cs 1st attempt
Step 3 78/199
2 months USCE in Peds (4 U.S. LORs)
YOG 2011. Need Visa
applied to 70 peds and 30 IM and got 9 peds and 1 IM interview.
Dint match.
The only and main reason is attempts in Medicine and Pediatrics in final yr MBBS.
Now if this is an issue then would I have gotten the interviews I got ??
And If it an issue how bad is it gonna influence this time too??

I have taken all tests step 1, step2 cs, and step2 ck. unfortunately I donít have CK scores, they will be available on sept 26
Is it better for me to apply on September 15 and update my CK (ON September 26) AND my certification (Oct 3)? or is it better to wait until I have all my results and apply there after?
Or Should I get certification on Oct 3 and then apply?
Cuz I heard there is a risk of my application being filtered out in some programs if I dont have CK scores and ECFMG and I won't be reconsidered once I get CK this year.
Please help.
I am sure many are in the same boat
Thanks

if you have read the posts above, some have high scores but ddnt match. its because they applied early with pending ck scores or CS results, they were probably filtered out. apply when complete.
