Default low step 1 score....any chances of pedia or im?

my step 1 score is just 211... took the exam few months ago... really devastated... is it possible to get im or pedia with this score or should I drop the idea of usmle completely? heard it's getting tougher for imgs. I have no research publications or usce as of now. graduated in 2015. Some honest advice needed!!
i'm a us img btw...

u hv chance. Just do better in ck. Do usce as much as u can. Add fm also. U will be fine i think. If u go in with only this score it will be rough. So better yourself with above suggestion. U can do reseach as well. U are a fresh grad and us citizen which is big deal for u. All the best.

Most people will tell you to continue and you have a chance. The truth is that you do have a chance but it's very low. To get interviews with this score, you need STRONG connections and stellar C.V. This takes years to build and super duper hard work to do A LOT of USCE and RESEARCH..etc. My advice to you, reconsider another pathway unless you're willing to invest years and years to build up a C.V that can make up for this score.

This guy obviously would invest years if he chooses. HE/SHE IS A USA CITIZEN. Means he will be living in USA and can afford to do any USCE he wants to. The truth is this year I saw 250s with only 3-5 interviews. I also saw same 250s with lower credentials than those who got the 3-5 interviews getting 20+ interviews. I know a friend with step1 21- and step2 22- who got 23 invites in family medicine. most family medicine programs this year looked out for recent graduates, citizenship/GC as well as USCE 3 or 6 months plus. So u still have a great chance without connection I think. Make ck better and work on those I have told you, u will be fine.

I had a 219 in step 1, and ended up really buckling down and making up for it in step 2 with a 250+.

I applied at 61 places, and got 34 interview offers as an IMG.

Not a single program mentioned my Step 1 score, they just said my step 2 score was stellar.

The only issue you're going to have with the Step 1 Score is getting past the electronic filters that some programs use to weed people out. But a lot of programs just use first time pass for step 1. Just apply broadly and be smart about the places you apply to and you will be fine. Oh, and make sure you show a lot of improvement on Step 2 CK.
