Default Rock & a hard place ! ROL help please!

Hi all,

I have a tough decision to make & I can really use some help.
I only got 4 interviews this season (out of 180 applications) can't really complain, it could've been worse!

My problem is that 3 of those programs are brand new first year programs, I really liked the first one on the list below as it will give me what I need for what I want down the road.

1-North Florida Regional Medical center (FL)
2-Berkshire medical center (MA)
3-Blake medical center (FL)
4-Mountain view medical center (NV)

However,I'm torn between Berkshire & Blake
I loved Berkshire but hated the area & always wanted to get out of Mass where I've been living for 2 years now.
I don't know much about Blake since it's a new program & no one can tell how things will go, but I love Florida & lived in that area before.

I have a wife and kid ,so location is kinda important but also are my chances for fellowship & having good training

Please share your thoughts !

thanks

another part of my question.
I'm interested in Cardiology fellowship. I've done 2 years of research at a one of Harvard hospitals & have some pubs under my belt. if I end up matching in Blake for example, do I still have a chance for fellowship with just my past research experience or does the program play an important role in the process?

Hi there,
I don't know about the new programs on your list as I have not interviewed there.

I would like to know what are the pluses and minuses of Berkshire?

I interviewed there and live in Mass. It's in the middle of nowhere but seems like a decent program. The residents were happy and schools are not bad in the area.

I'm also trying to make up my mind as to where to place Berkshire on my list?

I would love to hear your thoughts on the program.

Good luck with you choice.

Love your name, LOL.
I too liked the program but Pittsfield is terrible, it's in the middle of no where & filled with shady characters.

I thought Pittsfield was not a shabby place, it's Berkshires after all! Schools seem ok but not stellar. Maybe find a close by town for better schools..I don't know.

What would you rate the program on a scale of 1-10? 1 being poor quality and 10 being best in all respects?

the program itself is probably 7 but the area is about 4

Got it! I think area problem is solvable by living in a neighboring town. If the program is decent, rest can be figured out but again this is with Mass Winters!! so Florida is looking much better
