I'm sorry to hear your season is not progressing how you would like. Fortunately, you do not need interviews or a Rank Order List to be eligible for the Post-Match.

The main things you need to be eligible are:

1. Your USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS scores reported by the week before The Match

2. Registration with both NRMP and ERAS**

** Make sure you have registered with NRMP before the Rank Order List Deadline on February 24th

The Post-Match is a long shot for any residency candidates, but people do find Matches through it, so it's worth a shot.

Thank you Olivia@MatchAResident for your thoughts on SOAP. I have few questions and would appreciate if if you could provide your guidance on few things:

1. I assume that one had to apply fresh to programs for the purpose of SOAP?

2. If I already interviewed at some programs but didn't match there, should I apply to them again during SOAP?

3. Is there an advantage in applying to programs that I have already applied regardless of whether I received the interview invitation?

4. As an IMG, I should still be looking for IMG friendly programs as SOAP doesn't magically open up programs for me that I may not have applied during the main match?

5. Some information online suggests that one needs to have a fax handy and be prepared to fax documents etc? How relevant this is now?

6. Should one keep scanned copies of all documents so they could be sent via email?

7. I would think that applying through ERAS is the normal mode and most if not all programs accept applications through ERAS?

8. Any other tips?

With regards to your questions:

1. I assume that one had to apply fresh to programs for the purpose of SOAP? It's best to apply to programs you interviewed with already, programs you have connections to, fresh programs, and then programs you previously applied to. Just don't apply to an programs you received rejections from.

2. If I already interviewed at some programs but didn't match there, should I apply to them again during SOAP? You can, but see if you can find other programs first.

3. Is there an advantage in applying to programs that I have already applied regardless of whether I received the interview invitation? I suppose it gives you more options.

4. As an IMG, I should still be looking for IMG friendly programs as SOAP doesn't magically open up programs for me that I may not have applied during the main match? You got it. Even during SOAP, you must ensure the programs are IMG friendly.

5. Some information online suggests that one needs to have a fax handy and be prepared to fax documents etc? How relevant this is now? This is no longer relevant. All SOAP applications go through ERAS like the Regular Match.

6. Should one keep scanned copies of all documents so they could be sent via email? Not a bad idea, but I'm not sure if it will come up.

7. I would think that applying through ERAS is the normal mode and most if not all programs accept applications through ERAS? Applying through ERAS is the only mode. If you are participating in SOAP, you may not apply to programs outside SOAP and NRMP until after Thursday, March 17th at 5 pm (EST)

8. Any other tips? I have many tips for the Post-Match. Feel free to call the number below or email to further discuss the Post-Match.

Hello, as long as you are registered with NRMP and have your USMLE exams completed before Match Week, there isn't much more you can do other than to prepare for the Post-Match.

Some steps you can take to prepare are:

1. Figure out which specialties you will be applying to

2. Make sure you have specialty specific documents for those specialties such as your Personal Statement and Letters of Recommendation

3. Even if you already have documents, I suggest revising, renewing or even rewriting them

No. You do not need to create or certify a Rank Order List in order to be eligible for SOAP.

If you have any further eligibility questions, see: http://blog.matcharesident.com/eligi...st-match-soap/

With Match day fast approaching and thoughts going from matching to the frightening prospect of not matching, how about devising a game plan for SOAP.

Is this even a viable strategy for IMGs trying to get into the IM, FM or Psych?

Where can I find a list of programs that didn't fill their residency slots last year? I was able to see the PDF on NRMP website but it simply gives number of total slots and then how many were matched for *ALL* programs in *ALL* specialties. Is there a separate list for only the unfilled positions that would have been made available to unmatched candidates in the last season?

Do programs realistically don't fill their positions even in SOAP? Are those positions are communicated to applicants?

Where can I find what specialties were unfilled in the last match?
