Question To what extent connections work?

To what extent CONNECTIONS work?
If I have connections, can they get me only interview or can they even influence more than that?

It depends on how strong the connection is.

For example if your spouse is a resident in certain program, that can connection not only can get you an interview but it even can get you a high ranking position when they rank (remember no more prematches).

On the other hand, if for example, you know somebody who knows an attending in a certain program, that attending can get you an interview only and in the interview you have impress them.

Ask the Professor if there's any hope. Usually they might give you an interview just to please the Professor if he's powerful there.
But at the program history, if they did not accept any IMG in the last couple of years then you should typically forget about that program.
