I can share some personal experience here.
Last year when i was planing to do observerships, I emailed lot of programs not many had good news for me. Then I started looking for USCE at sites like amriclerkships etc which had very bad reviews online.. while doing this, the biggest question in my mind was, will the experience at private clinics be useful and will that carry enough weight as the info in these forums suggest otherwise.
I reached out to some USIMG's(current residents PGY2) whom I knew through common friends and asked the same question. I was surprised to know that even they do some rotations in private clinics and it was completely fine to have a letter form them as long as it is from an M.D. working in US clinical system. All they told me was "it was not the letter but whats written in the letter that matters most.." After speaking to them I went ahead and joined few clinics in Chicago because something was better than nothing.
Also please make sure to ask around when planing to attend at a clinic.. if the attending doctor does not have interest in writing a good letter for you, there is no point going there and spending the money on it.
