Based on the information provided, I would say you have a decent chance at landing a Family Medicine position. Unfortunately, your scores are on the low side, and needing a visa will limit your program choices. What you have working in your favor is your Year of Graduation and presence of US clinical experience.

We have written a guide on what you can do between now and June to strengthen your application at: http://blog.matcharesident.com/didnt...ld-i-do-now-2/

Default Visa is the biggest hurdle

Your scores are ok for fm, you passed step 3 and you are a recent grad. I think you'll get some interviews but from anecdotal evidence, fm appears to be a field that values US citizenship/GC more than any other. Within the past year someone in an fm program involved with the residency process said that their filters are set at 1st pass, 200+ scores. The second thing they look for is if the applicant is a citizen. I know that's not exactly something you can control but I wanted to let you know that it really isn't anything about your scores/yog/etc. IM tends to be more foreign-friendly and there are programs that would consider you. You've done most of what you can, apply wisely is all the advice I can give, good luck

Get more FM clinical experience. Most programs are aware that there are a lot candidates applying to FM as back, and they can ascertain that by seeing that the candidate has more IM experience.

Hi Sniper1410,

I agree with the previous posts that your scores should be high enough to earn you a decent number of interviews. The question is will you earn just one or two or 10+. If you want to fall into the latter category I recommend you ensure that you continue to gain USCE and/or research (ideally FM), have strong LOR's (recent, if possible) and obviously you will need a compelling personal statement. Having worked with hundreds of applicants I am a firm believer that passion matters when applying to Match. Displaying passion in your approach to the application process can overcome a lot of hurdles including less than ideal step scores. This can come in the form of continued participation in USCE, networking with programs, and ensuring that you submit a pristine application with well written documents. Best of luck and think about how you can approach networking with IMG friendly programs between now and the match period.

Remember one thing FM programs are NOT visa friendly. Step 2 is a bit low about 10-11 points lower than the average; YOG is good. I'd concentrate on IM but just my 2 cents.
