Listening Indian IMG failed step 1

I am Indian Medical graduate. I got my result on Wednesday. I am failed in step 1. I need sincere advice. Does this severely affects my chances of getting residency?

Because I can repeat exam and do good this time.

I read somewhere about filters which filter out repeater IMGs.

Please Advice me, Should I continue or not? And though I proceed with good scores in next steps ( including repeated step 1) and programs will just filter me out because my step 1 failure. I will be devastated.

Yes it's harder but not impossible. There are a lot of benefits that come out of passing the USMLE exam. The major one is making you a better physician, go for it and whatever happens, you won't have regrets.

If you get a high score the second time around, then some programs will overlook your initial score. But it would have to be a pretty high score. And every program is different.

sincere advice: An attempt irrespective of your scores second time around will severely affect your chances ! There is no sugar coating this. It's a hard fact and know it. Yes, programs do have screening filters and places which would have given you an interview otherwise, would just not call you coz of the attempt. That said, is residency gettable even with an attempt ? Ans- Yes, but it is going to be much more difficult than before. There are those rare cases like you who sometimes get through, but it is not the norm.

If IMGs chances of matching is 40%, I say you have not more than 5 to 10% chance of getting it. Maybe less! I'm sorry for the bad news, but of the programs require more than 90 in step 1 and CK first attempts.

If you are going to go through it, you have to have Connections

Caribbean students who are US citizens have been known to get residency after a few fails. Technically they are IMG. If you are not a US citizen then it's much harder and you're better off starting in India.

Dont forget Caribbean students have 72 weeks USCE, gives them alot more advantage. Especially when youre trying to cover up an attempt.
