Embarrassed Unallocated Spaces in Match

Heya !

First of all - a massive thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum daily, weekly, monthly... I'm one of the "Lurkers", curiously checking out peoples experiences and results and now with a question (and hopefully something to contribute in the near future ^^!) I make an account.

Secondly - Congratulations to all those that matched, those that didn't please remember that you are an amazing inspiration and source of knowledge - the positivity that you've contributed is priceless, continue to enhance your knowledge and application for next year ^^! (and the very best of luck with it)

Thirdly - My Question; I see some spaces that go allocated on the Match Statistics. I (like many others I guess) am looking to target a niche specialty from AMD and IMG combined and it surprises me to see that maybe 10% of places on some of these specialties go unfilled.
Do they get filled after the Match Statistics are released (by post-matching?)
Is the reason for these mainly institutional, rather than the fact their are no suitable applicants... or is purely the fact that they haven't found the round applicants?

I have searched around a little for this to no avail, thank you in-advance
