Unhappy Broken down..

Hi guys.. im an IMG and i just got my step2ck result and was really heartbreaking.. got only 216. is there any chance for me to get interview and matched? my step 1 score was 229. both i cleared in 1st attempt. But now i feel it was better if i had failed in step2. My dream is to get into IM. All my hardwork was on the hope of getting a better score in step2. But this is what i got. Should i quit?? Is there any point in continuing my journey?

hey,

I am no expert but from what I understand step 1 scores are used as cut off. Your step 1 scores are alright. Now you have to do everything else to compensate for step 2 CK score. You still have time till the Match!

- Work hard for step 3, try and get 240+. This will prove that you aren't all that bad since Ck and step 3 portion is sort of similar.
- Get a research published in a good journal.
- Try and get well written LORs.

And apply widely - to 100+ programs. Ask your profs with connections and elective attendings for help to get interviews later.
You have come so far, don't lose hope. make it happen buddy!

Thanku so much for that.. it really means a lot..
But do they really look at the step3 score? I thought step 1 and 2 are considered for matching, and was thinking whether to write my step3 now or not. It may sound foolish but i even went on to thinking of waiting for 7yrs to repeat my step2. So if i write step3 now even that option will be closed. Thats actually a thought out of my grief.. But as i said its really foolish & pathetic ryt.. Maybe i should proceed now itself and try to excel in step3...
I think i should work on finding research.. After coming so far its not wise to give up ryt.. im hoping against hope... Only God can help me.

See, I get it. When things don't go the way as expected - your inner mind tends to not be logical and thinks of the worst possibilities. I'm not saying these scores are amazing, but there is always something you can do. Match is subjective. Scores matter but so do other things.

First take deep breaths, be calm. try to accept the facts. don't feel pathetic about yourself and try troubleshooting your problems. Think what you can do at this point.

I would suggest you to work really hard and get amazing step 3 scores. Prove yourself. Also Try and get a research and build contacts.

But I'm still a newbie.. so maybe others who have matched can give better advice. And good luck buddy. Don't give up!

It definitely wouldn't have been better to fail! Despite the low score, it shows you are capable of passing on first attempt and you will pass the boards no problem.

Do some research, get great LORs to boost your application and that will help. I agree with above- apply widely. I know people with MULTIPLE attempts, like 3 or 4 failed attempts, that got interviews and matched because they applied to so many different programs and they had some great experience under their belt. You will not have a problem getting interviews without attempts if you apply strategically.

Thanku... Yes buddy.. I will work on that.. But still I feel bad about my score.. I never expected it to go so low.. Even for sample exams prior to exam I got 240, 250. But now no use.. What's done is done. I can only try, and work harder.
Wats the possibility of getting experience in US for an IMG like me wid no green card? Is there any chance for me to work there?
