Yes.
You need to pass Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS in order to get the California letter, you don't need to be ECFMG certified though!

I think to apply for it you don't need all exams to be done, you can start the process once you are done with your exams you can receive your letter, but not sure tried to call them today couldn't get a hold of them but thanks anyways

is it imp to wait for their response after sending L1A to L1E?
or we can send L2 & L5 ( with diploma & transcript)from our medical school by this time?

I think you can go ahead and send L2 and L5, they'll review each one separately and you can track their approval in the Web Applicant Access System (WAAS) here's the link
https://www2.mbc.ca.gov/WAAS/

Question Clarify CS requirement for PTAL?

@ Sabio - I really admired your post and willingness to help others.. keep up the good work!

are you certain about step 2 CS required to obtain PTAL letter? I think step 1 and step 2 CK is sufficient. I have already sent an email to California board to clarify but mean time thought should ask you/expert as well.

Please refer to below link page 5 last paragraph... (i think ECFMG certificate required for licensure which is given as we know)

@Aajj - I had sent my L2, L5, diploma and transcipt etc (through college) at the same time i sent L1A to L1E around a month ago... all my documents have been approved.. i dont think you will need to wait until L1A to L1E approval though... I would still clarify with California board or Sabio.. good luck!

There's no specific timeline, you can send all the required documents together.

Yes. You are correct. CS is not needed. I was wrong in my post, sorry for that.
The ECFMG certificate is needed for licensure (practice medicine) not for PTAL (doing residency).

@ Aajj - I would recommend to fill up L2 and L5 your self (as sometimes medical college wont pay attention to detail) and then send these two forms to your medical college along with a copy (just a copy not original's) of your medical diploma and transcript.. your medical college will have to verify and sign/stamp your L2 & L5 forms as well as put "true copy" (stating its a legit copy from original) stamps on your medical diploma and transcript and then your medical college should send all these documents in one envelope to california board.. thats what i did and it worked out pefectly fine.. good luck!

You can send the Diploma and Transcript, you don't need to have your med school send them.

California Medical Board (in most cases) require to see the original Diploma and Certificate, therefore you need to use FedEx to send them and make sure they return it to you once they see it.

Each applicant to California Letter will be assigned an application analyst, call the MBC and find out who's your assigned analyst so that you can communicate with her/him on regular basis.

Default L5 = Clerkship + Internship

Hi Aajj, I had included my clerkship (i.e. rotations in different department stating second year to final year of medical schoo) as well as Internship (i.e. one year after final medical school year) into L5 form. I graduated only after I finished one year of intership as well. I had to email CA Medical board to clarify this and they were the ones who told me to add all experience through out medical college. Thats what I did and it worked out fine.

Good luck!

You can print as many L5 forms as you need. I had to use "9" L5 forms to fit all those years training. Your medical college will have to verify on those L5 forms and sign and stamp on them as instructed. Good luck!

hm... I have heard that they do ask for it sometimes (I would think resume should be sufficient but not sure). They didnt ask me that though.. lucky me! since they didnt ask me I have not provided such hence I am not sure what exactly to provide. I would leave on Sabio or Step taker or someone else to opine on this. Good luck!

Default wait until you have step 1 and CK scores available.

They will need both step 1 and step 2 ck scores in order to process your PTAL. I wouldnt send them scores until I have both steps completed as you will have to pay again for any pending results. I think you can send the results through FSMB (Federation of State Medical Board) > Licensure Examination (USMLE) > Transcript Request > Online form. Good luck!

Thank u for ur helpful reply,I have one confusion,so we have to send the USMLE step1 & step 2 CK scores via FSMB,then why in california board website they mentioned about ECFMG also?
bcoz I saw that ECFMG does not send the scores!!
And another question is ,we have to pay 65 $ for 2 recipients.I have no idea about step 3 application,so asking, are these scores also needed for step 3 application? If yes ,then can we send them via fsmb?I am confused about that...
