Don't panic.. this year has been tough. You don't have amazing scores, me neither. The difference is that I worked hard to improve my resume with research and observerships. With only one month of obs you are not Balancing your scores. Also, what kind of LORs do you have? Because your scores you will need AMAZING LORs. Research and pubs helps too.

This is getting kind of ridiculous. I guess they just expect us to spend $$ on last minute flights too...ridiculous.

Rejection: Tufts Medical Center Program.

Does anyone know if this program is IMG friendly in the first place?

The boston programs (Harvard's 3, BU, and Tufts) are known to not be IMG friendly without either a) a ton of publications or b) internal department referral.

Got my rejection there just now too. Quite upsetting.

Hey! I received an IV from there and plan on attending the social event. I'm sure it is acceptable to attend the social event before or after your IV because interviews are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, but the social event is only on Mondays and Tuesdays. Therefore, if you have a Monday interview you have to attend the social event after. If you have a Wednesday interview you have to attend the tuesday social gathering for it to make financial sense. Hope that was clear!

Got a "rejection" from Tufts......

Then an hour later, got this:

"Due to an ERAS computer glitch a large number of you may have gotten a rejection letter from us. This is a mistake since we have not completed our evaluation of applicants. We are working with ERAS to correct this.

Sorry for the confusion"

Did anyone else get this?

Default financial issues and shut down of residency programs:-

Hello,

I have been hearing faint talks about some programs having financial issues
and subjected or at risk of being shut down,
I am not sure of any of these talks. I just got worried about these rumors
and wanted to share my concern to take your opinion if that is actually true or not.
Did it happen before?
Is there a chance of it to happen in the future?
And if yes what are the programs that are at risk of shutting down?
And what are the source of the info?

If anybody know, I would really appreciate your help.

I think it has happened before, this season there was a program that wasn't accepting any more residents for there program because of financial reason. But usually residency programs get 3 years worth of funding for each new resident so it's unlikely a program will just close because they require no additional funding to keep you working. If the hospital closes, that's a different situation. I'm not sure what happens there.

I think maybe it's the second attempt in the step 2ck, from what i've seen in their websites most programs many of them ask for steps to be approved on the first attempt. But i'm sure some programs won't care about that, so it's a matter of selection i think

Hello. When you apply to the Harrington Program do you also have to apply through ERAS? I am from Mexico but have a green card, I called them to ask about it and they told me just to apply through ERAS regularly!
Where are you from? Best of luck!

Could be a number of things e.g. USCE, Visa status, Publications, No US LoRs etc

Hi! Is there anyone applying with a "pending application for permanent residency " . How is the selection policy for those applicants? Do we have any disadvantage?

Yes I am. AFAIK there are no disadvantages but only advantages since program don't have to bother with Visa.

I am in the same category. I have two IVs so far. I believe the pending status is not helping me much because the progs which dont sponsor Visas do not want to take a candidate unless he or she has a GC already. I got a phone call yesterday from a prog extending me the interview(cannot disclose the name) and asking me about my current visa status but they declined the interview during the same phone call after knowing that I dont hold a GC currently. Also flushing hospital prog emailed me saying to let them know when I have GC or EAD approved until then they cant process my application.

I know for sure that some programs take the EAD but some apparently don't accept it . GC or nothing

yes, considering they have similar USCE, Publications, number of US LORs etc., apart from scores

In that scenario, LORs content and PS quality plays a role

Please forgive my ignorance but I thought "pending application for permanent residency" mean that you have an EAD already?

My advice would be as soon as possible because if you interview too late maybe there would be no more pre match spots to offer, if that's what you are after

thanks. so how does it work? they have 5 iv days in Nov and Dec each. Do prematch programs interview you and then within days send you the offer or they conclude interviewing all candidates and then extend contracts?

Thanks. I am from Paraguay. If you are a green card holder you can not apply to the Harrington program for residency. You have to apply just through Eras. When you apply for the harrington program, as I did, you send documents though regular mail and also you have to apply through ERAS. My guess is that the selection is different and somehow independent.

When it's prematch they offer you the position right in the spot on your interview, if not they will rank you just as any other program would

I have friends whom also applied to the regular track at UM/JHS and we haven't heard from them yet. I don't know if they first send invitation through the Harrington program and after that to the regular track. I am kind of concern because I really liked the program.

The selection committee for both tracks is different, so i assume they send interviews independently from one another

I hope this is true! I was asking several other applicants who applied to the regular track and they haven't received any interviews from there yet. I hope I can hear from them soon! Gracias amigo!

So Pre-Match means you will be offered a position prior to the match. They will give you a letter of understanding from the program which you must sign if you accept the program. All this occurs prior to the rank order list being inputed. The program does not participate in the NRMP Rank at all so they won't be putting in a rank order list.

Timing wise, some programs might offer a contract the day after interview if they really like you or take a week or two. Most programs fill there spot by mid December as it's first come, first serve bases of filling spots.

Conditions for accepting the Pre-Match would be full withdrawing from the match and showing the program proof you withdrew. Most programs will send you the letter of understanding first, you sign and send back with proof that you withdrew, and then they will provide a contract. You can with a click of a button re-enter the match but you should not as you already matched. If you accept the contract, and then participate in the match, that is an automatic NRMP match violation and will be suspended for 3 year in addition won't be able to participate in either programs.

If no pre-match program offers your an offer, you can go ahead a put in a rank order list on the NRMP however you will not be able to rank those programs since they don't participate.

My words of advice, take it with a grain of salt: Pre-Match is great if you have little interviews and feel like you have a chance of not matching however it's not as good if you have tons of interviews as you might be able to match in a highly desirable program. Most Pre-Match programs are viewed as lesser desirable program then the rest.

Gracias! Suerte amigo!

I saw a post in other forum about applying primary and categorical tracks in same program.

Is it advisable to apply both tracks in same program. Thanks in advance !

The pace has been excruciatingly slow, most hospitals have filled their calendars. I seriously don't know if we should expect some batches of second look interviews in November after AMG cancellations.

Rejection from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. That was unexpected, this is getting so discouraging.

Yeah from what i've seen in SDN somd guys here have more ivs that many AMGS hahaha and that is amazing. Also they are saying they overapplied this year and certainly many of us did that as well, maybe that's the reason why the system is so slow this year. Finally i know from a fact that some program are still reviewing applications or even just starting to do so, i know we all wish we had all our interviews since first day (i know my OCD would be very happy with that) but we will just have to wait until the end. The only thing we can do, and i'm talking to you guys with 12+ invites, is to honestly reject the ones you don't want to attend. Based on 2016 img match data attending 12 interviews gives u almost a 100% chance of matching and that won't get better. I know is your invitation, is your money, is your effort through the years that brought you here and you should be extremely proud, but why would you go to a communitty program you don't give sh&@!#t about when you have other 12 great interviews to attend and most importantly based on match data as well most people get matched in their first 3 options. So it wont make any real difference to rank 12 or 14 programs, and by withdrawing or rejecting programs you don't want you make the program extremely easier to others.

AMGs can't have more IVs than # of applications.

AMG's average # of applications ~10
AMG's average # of applications when overapplying ~20

IMG's average # of applications ~100+
IMG's average # of applications when overapplying ~200+

Thank you for those who are posting their Iv name of the program! I will leave this to you integrity, because purpose of the list is not to change place in ranking.
