Default California letter

Hey Guys,
I am looking for a clear answer, is it mandatory to hava a social security number in order to apply for Cali letter?
in other words can an IMG apply with only valid B1/B2 Visa? no SSN..

Nope. You need SSN. Cannot do it with a B1/B2
There are some who would say that you can apply without the california letter (finish all the other steps for PTAL except SSN) and then when/if u match in a california program, when u get a J1/H1b sponsorship apply for SSN and finish the process. But that's almost impractical (maybe even not possible) as cali programs will not call you or place you on ROL without PTAL. (unless u have very good connections)

Thanks for your input,
I see what you mean, but sounds like you eligible to apply for Cali programs while your PTAL letter is in progress, but you won't get interviews and won't be ranked by the programs. This is just frustrating...
