Calendar Timeline for Applying for 2014 Match

I wish to apply for the 2014 match - ie. Apply in the August/September of 2013 to start work as a resident in June 2014.

I have done the Step 2 CK, am planning on doing Step 1 in Jan/Feb/March 2013 and Step 2 CS sometime after that.

When is the latest I should aim to do Step 2 CS in order to get my results in time to be able to apply when I want? I am an English graduate with good communication skills so with a little prep I am sure I will pass CS first time.

Also, how long in advance will I need to book the CS exam? I have heard it is quite a while prior?

And by when should I have all my LORs ready?

If you look at this year for example here
http://www.usmle.org/step-2-cs/#reporting

You'll see that if you take the CS after May 19th, you won't have the result in September.

However, this year is exceptional as they are making changes to the CS format therefore I think in 2013 you probably have time until mid June 2013.

But I have an idea for you. Why don't do Step 2 CS before Step 1? This way you won't be worrying about the time line and you can even extend your Step 1 prep until July 2013 as Step 1 results typically come out in 3-4 weeks.

Yeah I will have to think about that.

After completing both Step 1 and Step 2 CS (having already done CK), what do I further have to do to be eligible to apply for the match? I presume this is the ECFMG certification process? How long does that take? Then how long does the application process for residency take?

What I'm trying to decide is how much time do I need to leave myself between completing my final USMLE exam and actually pressing the submit button on my residency application?

The ECFMG certificate takes about 2-3 weeks to come out. You can apply without it, but it would be better if you say YES to the question asking about ECFMG certification.

If you are planning for USCE and US LoRs, you need to get them ready before pressing the button.

Hey guys, do you think that next year the application season will also start Sep 15th like this time around? I know it isn't much, but 15 extra days can help a tiny bit.

JUST A THOUGHT.
Just to add to the information.. with all due respect.. I cleared CS before knowing the subjects tested in Step1! With atleast 10 more friends who passes CS at the same time as me. I am sure Step1 would have helped me a lot. However the part of info you carry forward to CS is very little and basic! I cant say it would work for all but its not impossible.

digeorge,

It looks like we're on the same boat; for some personal issues I had to reschedule my elegibilty period for step 1 and planning to take it somewhere in february. I also want to take CS before CK and was stressed out thinking I wont have time to do all the steps in that frame of time. my initial plan was to take ck in august but after reading some threads and getting advice I think it will be safer to do the best I can and try to get it done no later than mid July to be in the safe side.
