Hello people!
Just got an IV from Flushing. Does anyone knows anything about the program? It looks like it is a prematch one, but there is not much info on the website (about visas for example).

1 IV received till now. Not great but shows there is hope for everyone !

is anyone else a little discouraged by this process? Does anyone know when the majority of interview invites came out last year? I'm just trying to put things into perspective.Good luck to everyone!

Yeah agree. It was very slow this week. This was supposed to be the busiest week-hope next week will be better. From what I have heard so far the majority of the IVs come from October 1-20.

yes, that period is supposed to be the busiest time for iv offering. Let's keep out hopes up. Many programs that take a couple of IMGs a year haven't offered interviews yet, so there's still time!

I agree. I was really expecting something this week but all I got was well, nothing! From what I have heard, programs look at AMGs after MSPEs then us IMGs. So hopefully tomorrow will be better. Because right now, I am a bit disappointed myself.

Yesterday was Columbus Day, regional holiday for numerous states. I heard people got rejections from Northwestern and IVs from Hurley. Nothing more.

Hi, I got today an Application Status Email from Colorado saying that they are reviewing my application and thanking me for my patience. Is that normal? Any other received same kind of email from this program or others? What can I interpret from this email? Is another kind of soft rejection?

Thanks!

I hope it'll get interesting soon! This waiting is killing me! 😩🙈

Hey DarioCassim! Would you mind sharing your creds, if you haven't done so already?. That sounds like a positive message to me! I haven't applied to Colorado, though, so maybe the other guys can be more helpful.

Best!

I didn't apply to Northwestern Or Colorado. Just a very long wait, but still hanging in there. I've asked around and this year it seems to being a bit too slow for some reason, even for IM and Surgery. Keep the hopes up!

But Cleveland Clinic, UVA, UMissouri, and a few others are on waitlist. No more dates.

Atleast you're hearing from programs. I have got nothing. The past two weeks I was expecting something, but got rejections from SUNY upstate and Texas Amarillo.

Good afternoon! Ive been following this thread for a few weeks now and have finally mustered up the courage to chime in. I should be receiving my ECFMG certificate within the next 2 weeks, so I contacted the programs that I applied to informing them about this update to my application. A few replied with We are still reviewing applications.. and 3 replied with rejections . I hope that helps you @lalamoosa.

Anyway, I know my Step 1 score isnt competitive enough and it sucks that I cant do anything to change it. Im ultimately banking on the SOAP program that is offered. I applied to 51 programs, mostly along the east coast and a few out in Texas/Ilinois. Might apply to more this week. Here are my stats thus far:

Step 1: 203(2)
Step 2 CK: 223(1)
Step 2 CS: Pass(1)
Step 3: Early 2017
YOG: 2015
LOR: 3
Citizenship: US
Clerkship: 6 months
Research: January 2016 Present
Publications: 1 abstract, 1 manuscript pending

Rejections:
University of Maryland
Richmond University
Hofstra
Baylor (San Antonio)
Southern Illinois University

Acknowledgements (Or soft rejections?):
University of North Carolina
Albany
University at Buffalo
Memorial Health Mercer University

Reading all the other posts, I know the anxiety is killing us, but I hope you all stay positive and motivated! Good luck everyone!!

Just got another rejection lol, New York Medical College of Westchester.

It's still early in the Match, some programs do interviews all the way out in January. There's still hope!

I'm not allowed to respond to PM's (still a noob to this forum), but if anyone would like to contact me - chrissstel @ live . com

I got it too! I've heard good things since its affiliated with Mt. Sinai, but it has mostly IMGs because it is a prematch only program and AMGs don't like that.

Thrilled for everybody who has gotten interviews! The solidarity really helps keep my spirits up. Thank you all. I'm rooting for you guys!

I got a rejection from University of Washington in Seattle. It was a long shot, but I have roots there so I had to try. It never hurts to try. Time to shake it off and wait for things to pick up!

Step 1 257, Step 2 248, USCE 4 months, no visa needed.

I haven't been to Brooklyn, but just in case this helps a bit. I have family in Manhattan and a friend of mine who has a child lives in Brooklyn. From what I've heard, it's become very trendy to live there, very hipster. ;-) New York in general feels safe because there are so many people out and about. So even when you're walking alone you don't feel alone!

Congratulations on the interview! I think Brooklyn, from what I've heard about it, would be a great place to work.

Hey guys, don't give up so easily! This week has been really silent, even for rejections! One tendency I've seen that makes me worry is that the programs that have rejected me said something like "we have received a record number of applications this year...we have received over 1600 applications..." things like that. Is weird that so many programs use the same excuse, I think that they are really overwhelmed with the huge amount of applications to Pediatrics this year, what makes them be quite slowly compared to previous year. But the point is, why now? What makes pediatrics so attractive and competitive this year? Why so many people applied for pediatrics this year compared to previous years? That's worrisome, it means more competition, and at the same time more waiting. I think that the most IMG friendly program know this fact and they are waiting for the most competitive program to fill up their positions to start calling, because due to the high demand, they will get better candidates if they wait. That's my theory, maybe I'm wrong, but what is happening, this delay, makes not sense at all! So keep hopes up! Wait and see!

PD: New Jersey, Pensilvania and Florida are supposed to be very IMG friendly, why is that no one has heard about them? Wait and see! Best of luck to everyone!

Hey MsFrizzle.
Would you mind sharing your credentials please.
Applying for PTAL is worth it ? How long does the process take ? And having a GC is a must for it right ?
Would be grateful for your response.

The season definitely isn't officially over. I think there's usually a second wave later on once people drop out and I know there are schools that haven't started sending out invites.

In any event, my steps are in the range you specified and I have 5 IVs with the most recent ones coming this week. I don't feel comfortable posting my them here since I'm paranoid programs could read the forums but feel free to PM me.

Try to stay positive!!!

In any event, my steps are in the range you specified and I have 5 IVs with the most recent ones coming this week. I don't feel comfortable posting my them here since I'm paranoid programs could read the forums but feel free to PM me.

Try to stay positive!!!
I sent you a PM!

Hey, guys. For the past few weeks, it has been so silent for PEDs. No IVs since September, only few rejections occasionally in October. I would like to share my rejections so far to keep the thread alive

Rejections:
SUNY upstate,Cohen,UTMB, Northwestern,Tufts,St.Louis U,Westchester, U of Buffalo(acknowledgement as rejection I guess?)

Hey guys, I've been a long time reader of this forum and appreciate all of the input and contribution thus far. I wanted to know if anyone could rank these programs from either personal experience or what you've heard from others...?

Einstein PA
Monmouth NJ
Crozer-Chester PA
St. Peter's NJ
Staten Island University Hospital, NY

Thanks and good luck.

This thread needs some oxygen. It has gone to the second page when I tried to find it out. This year I heard some non US IMGs who have good CV got averagely 4-6 Ivs, with some middle high applicants less than three. It seems like each specialty has growing more competitive this year.

Anyway, after one month of totally no news from any PED program, today I got out of the waitlist after 1.5 month wait(literally waitlist) and got an iv from the program. and then I was put into waitlist again by another program. I am very happy though. I don't mind waiting even if it might take up to another 1.5 months

Congrats on coming off of the waitlist...that's a step in the right direction. Would you mind sharing to which program you're referring to? Also, I feel like this year will yield the same amount of invites as previous years but on a different timeline. People will start to cancel around the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) or become content with the program invites they've received and thats when IMGs will see an influx.....this is all just my opinion but I couldn't fathom this year being so much more competitive than last.

Stay positive! You have some interviews already which means program want you- now go out and sell yourself and your personality if you let this get you down you're more likely to mess up at the interviews you do have. I'm in a similar boat but staying relaxed and positive! i know people who have matched with only 2 interviews.
Breathe in and out- we're all stressing too.
Plus I agree with what 2017PedsRes said above- we'll likely get at least a couple more interviews in the next month or so.

Default Depress

Seriously Guys I need a lot of help to Cheer up!. My scores are Step 1 211 Step 2 218 and CS Pass, all in first attempt. Applied to 64 Programs and just Few have sent me letter of rejection by now. I know that most of programs dont even sent you the rejections but I guess I was waiting for more. I Hope that what its happening its more of the process being slow and interviews getting a little bit later than other years . These are the ones I have got rejections from:

- UTMB Galveston
- SUNY
- Hofstra
- Westchester NY
- Presbyterian Hospital Cornell campus
- Cleveland Clinic
- Southern Illinois
- U Michigan
- St John Detroit
- duPont Hospital
- Baylor San antonio
- Comer University Chicago
- Greenville

I would like opinions jeje THANK!

Embarrassed Is it time to start contacting programs?

Good afternoon All,

Hope everyone is doing well. I am starting to get worried because I have yet to hear back from a lot of programs. I know as IMGs, our applications are reviewed in the later months but I am fearful that all the positions may be filled at this point.

I sent out an update email to the programs when I received my ECFMG certificate in mid-October. Would it be too pushy/annoying if I were to contact the programs again to check if they are still considering applications? I know it sounds innocent enough but I don't want to pester the programs and end up with a rejection.

Thoughts anyone?

I think it's a good to time to send out emails or call. I got one IV after sending an email. But I would advise you do that for only programs that you are actually keen on attending their interviews or have particular interest in. Because it just sounds more genuine when you are explaining yourself. Also don't go bothering people in North Dakota, when you have no idea how you'll attend an interview there. Any program that rejects you after you reach out to them was going to reject you anyway. Why would I as a PD punish someone for showing extra interest? Reaching out will get you a lot of rejections quickly and might dampen your morale, but on the off chance it might nudge them to review your application again and give you a cancelled slot they were otherwise lazy to reschedule.
