Default failed step 3

I failed step 3 by one point.
Im devastated. Please some one tell me honestly if you think I have a chance in the next match.
My other credentials (no other failed exams):
2015yog/229/225/pass/2mo/3lors
I am applying to psychiatry, given the previous year I probably have no chances as guys with higher scores didnt match.

Psych is getting more competitive each year. Still some time for fall. Take your time and prepare for step 3 strongly. Lot of factors come into play in the end. So don't be discouraged if people you know who had similar scores could not match. Finish step 3 with a good score and good luck.

Agree with the above, study hard for step 3 and keep moving along. With regards to people not matching into psych with higher scores, I think most of it has to do with not showing enough interest in the field and using it as a backup. If you have no psych electives, no psych research and/or no psych LORs, they aren't going to look at your application too seriously, even with high scores. If you don't have any of the previous mentioned things on your application, consider why you want psych and show it through your personal statement

Well my advise is dont undersetimate it. Step 3 is the hardest of all, not the easiest and not the least irrelevant as it may seem from the common misconception. It is supposed to be taken in residency for a reason and contains topics from the actual medical practice point of view not just the theoretical like other steps. It is also the longest and most exhausting one. CCS is easy, focus on tests.
I dont think I will be retaking it, as my chances seem quite low for psych even with a passing score on step 3.

The concept of "backup" specialty is long gone and represents a mere matter of history as of now. You wont be considered anywhere even for an IV if you dont have lors and USCE for that specialty, especially for psych which was MORE competitive than IM/FM last year. All my application is built for psych and so are the other's Ive spoken to with higher credentials who did not match.
