Help pediatrics residency

Hi everyone!
I am an IMG..i recently graduated in may 2016..
My step 1 score is 250+ and i have given CS but did not get result as yet. i will be applying for 2017 match in pediatrics. I have done two observerships in pediatrics.

I have following questions:
1) Do i need some research or more observerships to build my CV? if research is an option then can someone suggest me places that accept volunteer researchers?

2) should I apply in IM with pediatrics LORs?

Thank you in advance!

from my perspective:
1) Don't waste your money on IM application (I had a decent peds application this year, and applied as a back up to FM and IM. Outcome - didn't get a single IV in those specialties, compared to 10 in peds).
2) You have a good s1 score - so work hard on achieving at least the same with your S2 (more important than observers because you're fresh grad).
3) Research is something for fellowship, doesn't add much weight to residency application. I'd do as much as possible observer\externships to show your specialty dedication (this carries a lot of weight these days), but just give you aced your S2.

Hope that helps, best of luck!

Thank you so much for the response! 10 is a good number of interviews! Can you tell me more about your profile if you don't mind? Thank you!

Default I agree

You dont have to waste your time/money with IM applications. I had 13 IVs total in peds but i think a lot of people were interested in my peds electives and my responsibilities so i wouldnt completely neglect those either (you have to show your specific interest in peds =) ) and agreed, get a killer score in your other steps as well!

(of course no one can predict what the cycle is going to be like. I had a few friends apply to a few VERY friendly IMG programs that had alums from our med school just in case) that being said, I think with your step score, you should be well on your way!
