Default Active TB and residency

Hi guys, does anyone know what happens if you matched and get diagnosed with active TB in the physical? Would you lose your residency spot?

Not sure about active TB but someone I know found out they had latent TB and had to start residency late. He tested positive luckily in Feb as a part of comprehensive health check up and started residency around late September.

My cousin actually. He had a positive PPD in Feb with negative CXR and started Rx with 9 month INH. The program said he can't start until he has 2 negative PPDs. That happened around August and he was able to start in September while continuing INH.

I was under the impression that once positive, a PPD generally remains positive since the immune response has been exposed to infection.

Thanks for messaging him and providing me with the information. I really hope I won't have to delay the start of my residency.

No problem. Apparently the policies vary with each program. He says that in his if you have a PPD and + X ray, GME will not allow the resident to work and you have to be cleared by the health dept before begining. Have you spoken with the GME in ur program?

I haven't spoken yet. I know I've definitely been exposed to TB, so infection and a positive test are pretty much the norm for doctors in my country. This shouldn't mean I have latent TB, right?? I know I definitely don't have any active disease.

Even if u have no symptoms or were vaccinated with BCG, you have latent TB if you have a positive PPD and negative chest X-ray. But if you have a positive PPD with or without symptoms and positive chest X-ray, its active TB.
