Question Can I apply for Match 2013?

Hello friends, I need your suggestions. Here is my story.

I am an IMG and I have completed my graduation in September 2011. I have finished step 1 with score 86/244 and step 2 CS in first attempt. I have 3 months of electives (USCE). My medical education credentials were verified. Now I am preparing for step 2 CK. I have only 3 & 1/2 months left to apply for September 15th 2012.
To get ECFMG certified I should have to take Step 2 CK by August 1st week and literally I have only 2 months and this won't be ample time for me as I am a slow reader and I don't want to compromise even on my scores.
Some of my seniors told me that without getting ECFMG certified before application dead line (i.e September 15th) your chances of getting interviews are only 1 or 2.
According my current schedule, I may take step 2 CK exam in October 2012, so I will be ECFMG certified by mid NOV. Is it a wise decision to apply at that time? because I don't want to lose those 1 or 2 chances.
(or)
Do I have to apply with step 1 and step 2 CS scores by September 15th and waiting for step 2 CK result till Oct 2012 and then update that score.

Your Step 1 score is good, this means that your medical knowledge (including clinical knowledge) is good and you dont' need that long time to prepare for the CK.

You don't need to wait until October to do the CK.

You can finish the CK before August, am sure about that, even if you are a slow reader.

Go take one of the CK NBME self assessments and see where you stand, if you score above 230 in that self assessment go take the exam soon with no delays.

Some warnings for you:
  • If you apply in November your chances will be very minimal in getting an interview.
  • If you apply with Step 1 and CS only your chances will be minimal in getting an interview.
  • If you postpone your matching season to 2014 you will be taking risks of running into a harder matching season and also adding another year to your years after graduation which program directors do not like here in USA.

I urge you to finish the CK before August and go jump into ERAS by September 15th.

You have everything in favor of you. Apply with what you have and don't write ck before you are well prepared. I am researching 2012 match and I came across few people with credential like your one got 10-11 interviews and matched. You need to update your score by mailing the PD as soon as you get your score. I'm sure if you are targeting IM with 6 months usce,2011 grad no one stopping you and also 240 in step1.
