Default Taking a gap while studying in med university. Effects on application.

Hello everybody, I have several questions about taking a one year gap while being a medical student.
Briefly about me. I am 4th year medical student in Europe (our studying program is 6 year long). I am looking forward to secure a spot in general surgery program in the USA . I am realistic and I am aiming for the preliminary position and then give a shoot for cat. In the end of this year I will not be able to pay for the next year fee of university, so I decided to take one year gap. At the moment I am actively involved in clinical research and volunteering in rural areas. The question is, how much it will affect or have devastating effect on my application if I will take one year off due to financial problems and spend this time doing research, volunteering and taking rotations in home country hospitals? May it brake it or make it? I searched for topics about gaps after graduation and things that folks do to compensate the gaps, but nothing about gaps while being student. Is there any place in the eras application about gaps in education that considers gaps while being student, or there is only considering the gaps after graduation? If I will take the gap my dates of attendance would be 2012-2019 that is 7 years instead of 6, and I think it is not hard to figure out that an extra year is present. Or it can go even unseen? Please give me an advise, because it is very important for me, it can hurt the whole thing that I was dreaming about.

Totally depends what you do. If you are productive then it can be a real benefit.
