Help Failed Step 1 Twice

hello all,
i am an IMG graduate but a citizen of america.

i have failed step 1 twice and passed with a score of 224 and a 230 on step 2 ck passed step 2 cs on the first attempt. my question is this:
do they filter interviews based on attempts or scores? i was told by a friend (who applied 2 years ago) that it was only scores. also i have not done and research and did 6 months of clinicals more than a year ago (currently trying to get more). i am only trying for psych.
PLEASE HELP i have a wife to support so I need to match asap.

i think u have a chance of getting a residency
agreed that u failed step 1 twice.. ( for interviews prepare a good reasoning for it)
but then uv passed with a 220+ and have cleared CK and CS on first attempt
plus u hv research n clinical experience.
so yes. ur chances are positive.

just make sure you APPLY WIDELY! and are ready to go wherever u get in.

The advantage you have is that You are a citizen and have no visa issues.Do yous CS if you have not done it yet...and apply for match...There is always a way out...Never give up...Your scores are not bad...Yes you did it on the 3rd attempt but at least you did it...I personally think you will be fine.Good Luck

so will i be able to apply everywhere or do they stop you from applying at certain school if you have too many ATTEMPTS? I FEAR THAT MY NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS AND FAILURES OF STEP 1 I WILL NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO APPLY TO PLACES.

Certain schools have criteria where in they donot consider ur application if u have multiple attempts.

research on their website what their criteria is.. and apply to places where u actually have a chance of matching

You won't know until you try.
you've come this far, it'd be silly to not go all the way.

If you're willing to try, you should be fine. Don't just stick to pscyh, try family med too, you can always change it after u get residency.

Hi pshah,

Your score is good for psych, but many programs set limits on the number of exam attempts. There are not a lot of places to which you can apply with any great hope of success, in my estimation. (If anyone disagrees, please chime in).

Other factors you haven't mentioned are important too. When did you graduate from medical school, for instance? Do you have really good LOR's? These factors will have a bearing on your application also. I think that your task is not insuperable, but very difficult.

Ed.

I think you need to be very selective about where you apply. I had a quick glance at our database and found some programs that might suit you. I am sure there are more. But have a look at these and see how they strike you:
