Default OBGYN match with CK 241?

Hello all,

Guidance on the following would be highly appreciated:

I'm a non-US citizen IMG with a Step 2 CK grade of 241. I haven't taken Step 1 or Step 2 CS yet.

Additional credentials on my CV:
- Elective rotation at a US IVY league program + LOR from senior attending
- Publications: One in OBGYN as first author (review article), one in pediatrics as first author (clinical research)

Is this a reasonable starting point for matching into OBGYN?
How would you recommend moving forward?

Many thanks!

Decent step 1 score and experience in Obgyn, so you are on the right path. Its a good start, but no one can predict the chances with just a step 1 score. Also Obgyn is relatively harder to get (as I am sure you already know), so try to score as high as you can in ck and step 3.

The average Step 2 CK score for US Seniors is 242, according to data from the nrmp. These are the people you have to compete with most, obviously. Then there are the non-US citizen IMG's (average Step 2 CK of 234). At least your score is above average for the non-US citizen IMG's who matched.

For Step 1, you will need to compete with a 226 for both non-US IMGs and US Seniors. You definitely have a shot if you stay on this path and get a competitive Step 1 score!

Star On the right path

Looks like you are on the correct path!

The only issue is Step 1. It is weighted pretty heavily in many programs, but as the previous reply states, if you are able to get an above average step 1 score. You should have a good shot. Also continue to gain experience in the OBGYN programs specifically ones you are interested in if possible. Always helps to show that you are very interested.
