Default step 1: 250, step 2: 238 - chances of getting IM residency?

Hello guys,
I am an IMG. I got very good score in step 1(250) but screwed my step 2ck (238) compared to my step 1. Does this decrease my chances for matching into IM residency program ?

Default Good chance

Even though your Step 2 CK scores are less than Step 1, your chances are good.
All the best,
Resi

Star Good scores - Good Shot

We really think you have a good shot. Those are both good scores. Just make sure to concentrate on CS and of course your LoR from your select programs.

It's a great question. I think overall your Step 2 CK score won't help you. It is unlikely to hurt you.

You have to remember that programs get thousands of applications. They have to auto-filter to make it manageable. My previous hospital, a community place that attracts 100% IMGs for categorical medicine received 8000 applications for 32 spots.

Every program has filters for Step 1, Step 2, previous failures, etc. Step 1 is the most common filter and usually it's not set very high (we've seen 220 or 225). For Step 2 CK, filters are used but less common. Your score is high enough to pass the majority of filters. However, you may be asked in your interviews what happened there. Having a mature answer to what happened will help you a long way.
