Smile A look at my future

Hello guys,
I am an IMG from India but did my MBBS from Chinese university. I am march 2012 graduate, I am will be done with both step 1 and CK by mid april 2013 (If everything goes good ) Then i am planning to do 2 months of externship (may be in may or june or july- depends on externship agency and visa procedure) and will give my CS by last week of july or first week of august. and i want to try for September 2013 matching program.
So my questions are:
1. What else i can do to increase my matching chances? (just imagine i get good competitive score too)
2. When should i take step 3? and if i can't take step 3 before september 1 will it effect my matching chances?
Any other suggestions regarding my plans will be appreciated too.
and ya i am aim for IMG favorite IM residency.
Thanks

Try to get a great score on Step 1.
Make sure you get the best LOR's you can.
Have a good personal statement.
Prepare very carefully for interviews.
I don't think that having Step 3 before September is that important, but try to have it when rank order lists are due.

I have a question for you. How many residencies will you apply for?

Ed

Thanks for your reply.
I am thinking to apply for 60-80 residencies (Is that ok?)
You said "try to have step 3 when ROL are due" can you more clarify this point?

I think you need to go for around 150. It's shocking, I know, but I have been hearing that figure more and more, even among AMG's.
Step 3 will give you a boost, but you don't need it to be granted an interview. So don't rush it, if you are not ready.

Chime in, anybody, if there are differing opinions.

Ed.
