hey

just dropping in for an fyi, since youre canadian its a bit different for you. Applying to a US residency if youre canadian is difficult. Look for threads on SDN. Basically;
- If youre canadian you can only apply for a J1 visa if youve given the MCCEE/MCCQE exams in canada.
- You cant apply to dual specialty programs, eg IM/FM etc
- If youre applying for a J1, Canada releases its "statement of need" quota in end of november/december. Applying that late means youre screwed
- Statement of need brings in a lot of issues
- You can however, apply for H1B if you have step 3 (as mentioned though, most programs dont sponsor H1b)

Im assuming you have a dual citizenship, so use your pakistani passport to apply for residency

sorry but a lot of this is incorrect.

- the J1 visa for canada no longer requires ANY of the canadian board exams. you can apply without MCCEE/QE1/NAC OSCE
- the statement of need quotas for 2017 have already been released:
