In between sitting for exams and MATCH.
Hi, I am a doctor from the Uk and moving to go the US in Nov, and have started studying for the step 1 some time back. However I have noticed that I have missed the boat for the ERAS application for 2017 since there is no way I could finish step1 , 2 ck and cs by the end of this year. I have also graduated more than 8 years from med school so there is no way I can finish off these exams rapidly based on my knowledge. I am aiming for a higher score to balance out my graduation age factor which might work against me. My questions are :
1)I am wondering what happens to doctors who are in this situation and can't really work as a doctor until you get a residency and matched ie is there an in between common route where people take (especially those already living in the US) while waiting for for the match the year after next in this case 2018?
2) If a person applies for a match in 2018, when is the ideal time to actually finish the step 2 cs to prepare to join an observership programme( considering if one does it in sequence step 1 then 2 ck then cs)?
3) Since I won't be practicing as a doctor in the US , would it cast a bad outlook on my cv at the end of the day?
I really sincerely hope somebody can help me with these questions. Thank you so much.
