Default US LOR from Old friend

Hey Guys,

I am old grad and do not have any US LORs. I was wondering if it is it advisable to take LOR from old friend who was my senior during PG training in home country many years back & is now attending cardiologist in US.

Guys your opinions and suggestions would be invaluable. Please reply.

Not a great idea to be honest as the LoR would obviously be biased and it would look really bad if PDs knew the letter writer was your friend. Worst case scenario if you really have to take it from him make sure you do an observership with him.

Thank you so much for your reply. I never thought along these lines. I will plan to do observership with him if i fail to match this year.
