Default Step 2 ck second attempt

Does a second attempt in step 2 ck completely mean you can't hope to secure a residency for an IMG ?

No it doesn't. If you do your research online about residency programs you will find many programs that allow IMGs to have no more than 2 attempts on CK And step 1 which means you are still on safe side , you need to work on you CV ( look for research/ observership/ clinical experience/ connections / step 3 ...etc if you haven't already done it) cheer up my friend and keep going.

I have a similiar question. I also have passed step 1 on the second attempt and working on step 2CK. If a IM residency program has as a requirement a low threshold step score but passing on the first attempt is it pointless to apply to such programs?
Appreciate your answer and help.

Dr.kuar

Usually when you look at a specific program to apply for, they mention 2 things :

Requirements --> which you must fulfill all to be able applly for the program ( example: pass on 1st attempt or 2nd attempt or a score of more than 200 or 220, or step 3 )

Strongly recommended --> you don't have to have all ( example : LORs / research / years since graduation)

So, yes if they clearly mention that you must pass on 1st attempt then it is pointless to apply for the program and waist your money.

Now if you still want to make sure or check a specific program requirements which maybe not clear on their website you can always give them a call.
