Default Step 3 an advantage for me ?

Greetings folks .
I'm an IMG
YOG : 2015
Step 1 : 254
Cs : pass (1st attempt )
Ck : 265
Greencard holder
3 LORs

I was wondering should I immediately take up step 3 ? Or it's okay if I do it before the end of this year ??
Thanks in advance

Your scores are pretty good so you can keep your choice a priority..
All the best !
As for step 3 it depends on you, since your scores are pretty good i don't think you HAVE to give it asap.. it's generally recommended for ppl who need visa or with low scores..

You already have green card.
Most IMGs write step 3 so that they get H1 visa
And certain specialities and programs prefer IMGs with step 3
Depends on u. If u can write step 3 then it is better.

Thank you very much for your opinions . I will probably write my step 3 . But my question is , whether December is safe to write it ? Or it has to be before application itself

In general, when it comes to the USMLE Step 3, it can be a risk.

Passing it helps with qualifying for the H1-B visa and Program Directors and Interview Committees like to see a passed Step 3 so they don't have to worry about you not passing it later. However, it's not a major factor in their decision making process (http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploa...eport-2014.pdf, page 4).

Failing your Step 3 will deeply hurt your chances with obtaining interviews and getting ranked highly. Therefore, if you choose to take the Step 3, you MUST pass it.

In your case, you have a strong profile with high USMLE scores, recent graduation, no visa limitations and LoRs. It may not be worth the risk unless you are very confident about your chances of passing.

More information about the Step 3 is at: http://blog.matcharesident.com/usmle...y-application/

Hey there, those are already really good numbers! I don't think that you would get shut out of programs with those kind of numbers, and if you are that a step three score was probably not help you anyway. If I were you, I would apply now. Like other people have said, Step 3 is useful if you need to make up a lower number.
