why make a whatsapp group
the whole idea of a forum is so everyone on it benefits and interacts
not to create private whatsapp groups with msgs and alerts that would have your phone ringing all day

just my two cents

True. But this website is not very mobile friendly. And I doubt the first thing a person will do when they get an interview is come here. I have seen people on Skype/ Whatsapp groups are more responsive and more active, because of the accessibility and ease to post.
Just My two cents

Step 1: 210
Step 2: 220
Step 2 CS: first pass
Step 3: 185 got scores back on 9/14/16.
YOG: December 2015
Publications: 2
Graduate degrees: besides MD, MPH and MHA

Probably not matching because of stupid step 3.

I applied to total of 220 programs. Pretty much everywhere. 150 programs are FM and rest are Internal medicine. No university programs. Focused on community based centers.

Well your scores are low for IM the 185 step 3 is hurting you app as it's a fail. I think you have a better shot in FM. If you have shown passion in FM vs IM in the form of experiences.

I applied to 280ish FM

Honestly, i can't be 100%. My normal miscue's (time management) wasn't an issue. I think CCS along with pediatrics (one 'x' with a star to the left, very left)..

Thank you for support.

I can use some help if anyone can provide some guidance. Kind of lost. Don't want to rehash everything but if you need detail heres the link where i posted. Long time lurker, first time failer

Summary:

Prep:

4 months of dedicated time. About 12 hours a day. Lets make it 7 hours a day of solid studying for 4 months.

UW: First pass: 57% correct. Timed, random. Then incorrect questions. 2nd pass: Reset the qbank. Timed, random 85% correct. Then incorrect questions. Then marked about 600 questions on topic i sucked at. Made blocks out of these. Then marked another 250 questions that i was still struggling with. Then marked another 100qs to make sure i was focusing on weak concepts.

Notes: Made flashcards out of UW and reviewed them on regular basis. Was trying to avoid passive learning. Looked up material from Step up to medicine and or MTB step 2/step 3.

Videos: Used medquest (conrad fischer's) Step 3 HY course. Watched these videos about twice becasue most of the content was still fresh from step 2.

Audio: My daily commute was 90 minute one way. So converted step 3 HY videos to audio for listening.

Exams: NBME: scored 400 raw score since they don't give you conversion. NBME was done about 9 weeks before test date. UWSA: Took about 7 weeks before my test and scored 208. From the time i took UWSA to my actual exam: Primarily stuck on uw, and uw flash cards.

CCS: UW 51 cases about 4 times.
Official Usmle CCS: Went through couple of times.

Biostat: Did UW step 1, step 2, step 3 + UW biostat course.

Wk areas: Early on i sucked at acute coronary syndrome, pna, gallstones, cholecystitis, elec trolytes, and some endo. Worked at these. Opened up MTB, wiki, step up to med to make sure i learned it.

Not Sure: If i should re do UW step 3, Kaplan step 3 q bank or first aid step 3 qbank..OR do UW step 2 question for weak areas like Peds and neuro. Not sure if UW step 2 is superior to kaplan/firstaid step 3 qbank. And CCs: Crush, UW CC 51 cases along with 40 read out cases. Not sure.

I made about 800 flashcards primarily from UW step 3. I can def use them to review UW step 3.

Allow me to explain I went to the national AAFP conference and talked to at least 50 programs this was my assessment

1. Must have passion for FM they know they are a IM backup and take only those that love FM. The easiest way to show this is FM LOR w FM Experience

2. Most want visa that's the first thing most progs asked me

3. I'm not carribean but it sucked carribean grads are preferred a program said they rotate for 2 years and touch all FM aspects which is why

4. YOG is important w less than 3 being the norm vs IM at 5.

5. Low scores no step 3 failures ok just research the program.

CE I have a good amount of knowledge on the match in general. I have been following it for 2 plus years now religiously.

I would say you have a few positives for FM
-YOG 2015 is great
-Scores are decent for FM not stellar but decent

I would say negatives are
-Brazilian grad is an issue. A carribean will get first preference. I can attest myself and many friends just got rejected from St Elizabeth in KY they filtered out all non Caribbean IMGs.
-USCE for FM is way low most places ask for 6 months

I think you'd get 2-4

IV but it's up to you to nail them.

I am applying to 200 FM IMG friendly programs (almost 5K in fees!)

2016 IMG Grad. (US Citizen)
210 Step 1 (1st Attempt)
221 Step 2CK (1st Attempt)
Step 2CS Pass (1st Attempt)
Age 52 (That is why so many programs)

I am hoping my age does not become a big factor but I do look like I am in my late 30's (Good genes) and I am in excellent health.

1 Rejection letter so far. I heard that Oct. is the month for IMG's ...

No. 1 is why I did not apply in FM. No LoR or experience in FM. Also No. 4 being 5 year from grad.

Geek don't feel inadequate I took a shotgun approach I am also sitting on 10 rejections already lol

P man ya man you didn't apply to FM honestly if you don't show focus in it there really is no point. Progs will call you IM all day.

Hello Guys. I'm wondering how many FM programs are IMG friendly for NON Green card holders or Us citizens and what is the chance of acceptance of these applicants.
Many thanks in advance

They are not suppose to age discriminate but I heard they can sometimes.

Rejection was at University of New Mexico (Santa Fe) Rural Program Family Medicine.

My friend just got rejected there too. They must filter quickly.

Hey CE ... I would have applied to more programs if you had the $$$. It might be too late but I went from 165 to 203 after 9/15 just in case. Most people (not all) only get one shot at this so make it count!

120 of the 280 FM fall in my criteria

The rest I am missing one requirement and some progs w their 3 YOG do not specify whether it's at residency start or app start I applied to those also taking the chance as I am 3 at application.

Many programs had no info on their site I applied to those also.

At the end out of the 120 that fit I expect 5 IV 2 of those I have contacts this is attainable.

The other call it 160 maybe I'll pick up 2 IV or a 1 pct success rate.

This is my strategy to hopefully secure 7 FM IV.

hello all

first off -- good luck everyone, lets do this thing!

secondly -- just wondering if you consider FREIDA a good resource for finding programs that accept J1. I applied to a bunch using freida but i got a couple rejections saying they don't accept visas

I used FREIDA but confirmed by checking every programs website or calling. It takes time but at least you don't waste money applying to programs that don't sponsor.

most time after consulting frieda, i usually go to the programs website to confirm. sometimes they do contradict each other

You are right; it would have been better to apply to more programs. However, I was limited due a few things: Needing a visa, 2 months of clinical experience and not having a PTAL. With that as my primary screening method I found 100 programs I could solidly apply (there were a handful that asked for 3 months of CE that I still applied after I called and talked to someone who said they thought it likely would not exclude me from being considered).
Maybe it would have still been a better idea to apply anyway, after all the only thing I would have to lose would be cash versus not matching. I guess time will tell.
Btw I got rejection from two places so far: sweedish medical at Seattle, and U of Illinois at Dixon. Got one letter of acknoledgement and one email that said I was rejected than later the coordinator for the program emailed me back and apologized saying to disregard it (seemed like a mass email).
Good luck to all

Thank you . I checked this same thread from last year and it looks like IMG interviews come in more around the beginning of October till the end of October mostly. So we have time. It just sucks having to wait in suspense everyday but fingers crossed we all get interviews.

I haven't received anything else. I am still sitting at 2 rejections thus far.

I've also taken the advice and added 11 more programs yesterday totaling 111 programs I've applied to. Perhaps something fruitful will result of that.
I called these programs and asked if it was too late to apply and was told that even though they have already started sending out invitations they still have spots for interviews and are looking out for new applications coming in late. So fingers crossed!
Congratulations for those that received interviews!
