Default Will I match in psych 2013?

hey everyone,

I am a US citizen but an FMG, I graduated july 29 2010 I am applying for match this year.
CONS- I had many personal setbacks this year including death of a parent and loss of my child (miscarriage) I have had two attempts at step 1 where i failed miserably 144 both times. I am taking exam again july 22 and am scoring a 230 on my nbme so I think I should be ok. Because of my personal stuff I have a two year gap in my resume from graduating to now.
PROS- I took my cs last july and passed with high marks. i am taking my CK in September so I will be applying late. I have done 6 months of observsership in the US in 2009. I am receiving two good recommendation letters from that time including one form the vice chair of clinical affairs in psychaitry.

are there any recommendation as to what I can do to maybe improve my chances of getting interviews? I know I only have a couple of months but I need to start earning so I can help support my family.
thank you for all of your help in advance.

For a start, get more USCE. Since you only have 2 LORs, itll help with that aswell.

I don't think you can afford many more failures. Getting a really good score this time on Step 1 will lessen the impact of your failures and help to explain them as aberrrations. Are you sure you have left enough time to study for Step 2 CK?

Best of luck and congratulations on overcoming so much adversity and on doing so well on CS.

Ed.

You cant fail again, Psych is a competitive field now. I suggest doing at least 1 year of UCSCE and having 4 LOR's from US MD. It does not matter if you have Psych. Psych wants to see other LOR's

thank you for all of the replies. I am trying hard not to fail again. as for my LOR's one was a rotation in internal medicine- HIV/AIDS division and another one is from the assistant dean of psychiatry department. I have kept in touch with this doctor and am hoping she will help me get residency at her hospital.
i am doing one moremonth of usce under her again. any other suggestions, please let me know.
